Chapter 1496
[ 690 words ]
At Harold’s declaration, a heavy silence fell over the phone line.
A few seconds later, the call was tactfully disconnected.
“You…”
Lorelei finally snapped back to her senses, staring at Harold in sheer shock.
What kind of outrageous thing was he saying?!
“Lori…”
Harold looked down at her, holding her gaze for a few seconds before his head dropped forward and he collapsed heavily against her.
“Harold!”
Lorelei shook him, realizing his eyes were shut tight and his skin was absolutely scorching.
Did he actually pass out from the fever?!
Struggling, Lorelei managed to push him off and immediately dialed the family doctor.
“Feverish delirium, compounded by extreme excitement and an adrenaline rush.” After examining him, the doctor lowered his voice and asked, “Did Mr. Houston engage in any… strenuous activity just now?”
Extreme excitement?
An adrenaline rush?
Lorelei instinctively pressed her lips together, the memory of that intense kiss flooding back, turning her face crimson.
“Ah.”
The doctor glanced at her, and upon noticing her swollen lips, seemed to put the pieces together.
“It’s perfectly normal for young couples reuniting after a while. Very normal,” the doctor chuckled, speaking from obvious experience.
He just couldn’t wrap his head around the fact that Dr. Houston, the man everyone thought was cold and abstinent, possessed this side to him.
And the public thought they were getting a divorce?
From where he was standing, they looked madly in love!
Lorelei opened her mouth to explain, only to realize she didn’t even know where to begin. “Is he going to be okay?”
“He’s fine.” The doctor shook his head, his tone respectful. “I gave him an IV drip. Just make sure he drinks plenty of fluids and gets enough rest. It’s nothing serious.”
Mr. Houston was a doctor himself; it took some serious effort to work himself up to the point of passing out.
Truly, even the greatest heroes fall for a beautiful woman!
“Thank you.”
After seeing the doctor out, Lorelei was heading back to the bedroom when she spotted the little kitten trembling in a corner.
“Meow~”
Seeing its beloved owner, ‘Baby’ instantly trotted over, rubbing against her ankles and whining loudly. “Meow! Meow!”
Its cries got louder and louder, glaring in the direction of the bedroom as if cursing the man inside.
“You mean him?”
Lorelei
scratchiched down, gently
the kitten’s soft little
head, and murmured soothingly, “His name is Harold He’s the man of the house.”

“Meow~”
“I wasn’t ignoring you. Harold is allergic to cats.”
“Meow~”
Refusing to accept this, the kitten dug its two little paws into Lorelei’s pant leg.
“Shh.” Lorelei gently picked it up, carrying it back into the guest room, and gave it a cat treat “Besides you’re the one who stole his bedst
had to say a lot of nice things just to get him to let you stay.”
If it kept meowing and woke Harold up, what if he tossed it out on the street?
“When you live under someone else’s roof, you have to learn to compromise.” Lorelei rubbed its belly, sighing softly.
“Meow~”
Eating its treat, the kitten’s cries softened considerably, looking so well-behaved it made her heart ache.
Though its little ears were pinned back, and its mouth was tightly shut.
It looked like it was right on the verge of shedding actual tears.
“Don’t worry, as long as I’m here, I definitely won’t let you get thrown out.” Lorelei stroked its für “Alright, be a good kitty and stay here have to go take care of the man of the house now.”
Lorelei made a point to wash her hands and change her clothes before finally returning to his bedside.
Harold’s eyes were closed, his brows knitted tightly together as if something was bothering him.
Lorelei sat down beside him, using a damp cotton swab to gently moisten his lips.
As she tended to him.
She suddenly recalled that out-of-control kiss, her hand slipping, accidentally pressing down a bit too hard.
The sleeping man abruptly opened his eyes.
“You’re awake?”
Lorelei’s face flushed violently, and she forced herself to act calm. “Your IV is almost finished. You need to pull the needle out.”
“Mhm.”
Harold nodded, bringing his right hand over to his left to expertly remove the IV needle.
Lorelei quickly pressed a sterile cotton pad against the spot, asking, “Are you hungry? Should I go make you something to eat?”
“I’m not hungry.”
Harold’s fever had finally broken, though he still looked rather pale.
