Chapter 1497
[ 622 words ]
“Oh.”
Lorelei sat down, not daring to look into his eyes, much less bring up what had just happened.
She suspected Harold was delirious from his fever. He must have mistaken her for someone else to do something so out of line.
“Lorelei…” Seeing her turn her face away to stare blankly at the white wall, Harold parted his lips. “Are you putting yourself in a time-out, or are you just too scared to look at me?”
“No.” Lorelei pulled her gaze back, meeting his eyes in a flurry of panic. “Why would I… be scared?”
She nearly bit her tongue on those last few words.
“Heh.”
Harold was amused by her adorable fluster, the corners of his mouth curving up slightly. “I passed out, I didn’t die. I’ll take responsibility for what I did.”
“Responsibility?”
Lorelei’s eyes trembled, her fingertips curling into her palms.
“Yeah.” Harold nodded, leaning in close to her face, his voice slow and deliberate. “I kissed you. You can kiss me back.”
Lorelei was speechless.
“Want to?” Harold asked.
“N-No.”
Lorelei shot up in a panic, her cheeks burning bright red as she hurried toward the door. “I’m going to grab something to eat.”
“I’m not hungry,” Harold called out.
“I-I am.”
Watching the girl flee in a
Grab something to eat?
Harold felt a surge of delight.
Could she even cook anything at all?!
Back in the kitchen.
Lorelei’s heart was pounding so hard it felt like it might burst right out of her chest.
She clutched her shirt, desperately trying to steady her breathing.
Harold really had initiated that kiss.
He got jealous, he kissed her, and he even told Eleanor he wanted to have a baby with her.
Why?
Did he actually have feelings for her now?
Thinking of this, Lorelei couldn’t tell if she felt happy or devastated.
She was happy because the man she had secretly loved for fifteen years might finally be returning her feelings.
But she was devastated.
Love is selfish. If Harold still had another girl in his heart, why would he suddenly start liking her?
Was that really fair to the other girl?
Or… did something happen between him and that girl, making him settle for his second choice?
Was she just a backup plan?
Would being a backup really make her happy?
Lorelei’s mind was a mess. She didn’t know how to handle this sudden shift.
She pulled out her phone and called her best friend. “Suki, I need your advice on something.”
“Babe, hold on a sec.” Suki sounded
like she had just run a ma

husband first. Your house Sw

“What?”
Lorelei looked utterly bewildered.
“You know how you asked me to look into who. Harold’s first love

Suki swallowed hard. “I found
It’s Felicia Bishop.”
Felicia Bishop?
Lorelei’s heart took a massive hit. She was a girl in the class next door back in the
day.
She had followed in Harold’s footsteps to study medicine, becoming a junior colleague at his hospital.
Lorelei had suspected it was her in the past.
Because Harold had once mentioned that the girl he liked was in their grade.
Harold was always so cold, but Felicia somehow always managed to get him talking.
And then, Felicia had to transfer schools for special reasons, and after that, Harold had become even more gloomy.
So it really was her.
“She’s back in the country!” Suki said frantically. “You absolutely cannot let your husband find out if they rekindle their old flame you’re doomed.”
Just as Lorelei was sinking into despair, Harold’s voice drifted from the living room.
“Lori, I need to head out for a bit. Don’t wait up for me, get some sleep.”
“?”
By the time Lorelei chased after him, Harold was already gone.
He must have been in a huge rush, because he had left his phone on the table.
The last call in his log was from a contact named: Felicia Bishop.
“Too late.”
Lorelei stood frozen in place, holding the phone, her heart breaking violently. “He went after her.”
