Don’t Mess with the Girl with Candy Chapter 1498

Chapter 1498

[ 703 words ]

“What do you mean he went after her?”

Suki asked cautiously over the phone.

“Harold.” Lorelei leaned against the wall, a biting, bone-deep chill seeping into her body. Her voice was so hoarse it was barely a whisper. “He got a call from Felicia, and he ran out after her.”

He was still sick, so weak he could barely stand, yet the moment he heard Felicia was back, he had bolted out the door like his life depended on it.

If that wasn’t love, what was?

“Suki…” Lorelei tipped her head back against the wall, but the tears kept falling anyway. She let out a quiet sob. “I thought Harold had finally fallen for me. I thought my fifteen-year crush was finally being answered.”

“But now I see I’m just a backup plan. I’ve always just been someone’s second choice.”

“There are so few people in this world who actually love me for me.”

Lorelei wiped her tears, feeling completely isolated and helpless. “Maybe I don’t even qualify as a backup.”

She was a joke.

Fifteen years of feelings, all just a pipe dream.

It was time to wake up.

At 3:00 AM.

Harold dragged his weakened, feverish body back into the house.

The living room lights were still on.

He walked quietly to the master bedroom and nudged the door open just a crack.

He saw the lump under the covers on the bed.

Not wanting to disturb her sleep, Harold didn’t go in. He turned and headed to the guest room instead.

The moment the door clicked shut, Lorelei opened her tear-soaked eyes in the dark.

In the guest room.

Harold flicked on the lights. Curled up right in the middle of the large bed, a tiny ball of fur suddenly snapped its head up.

*Meow~*

Realizing the person standing there wasn’t its mommy, the kitten fluffed up all over, scooting backward and trying to look fierce.

Harold shrugged off his jacket, casually tossing it over a chair, and walked slowly to the edge of the bed.

With just two fingers, he pinched the cowardly little kitten by the scruff and dropped it into his left palm.

*Meow~*

Baby wanted to bite him, but then remembered what its mommy always said.

*When a cat lives under a human’s roof, it must learn to bow its head.*

The bared tiny teeth immediately retracted.

“Are you the Baby’ Lorelei keeps talking about?” Harold poked the kitten’s head, a faint smile tugging at the corners of his mouth “From now on, you don’t get to use that name anymore.”

“Because I’m her baby now.”

*Meow~*

The kitten gave a soft cry, attempting a rebellion that was entirely futile.

“What should I rename you?” Harold studied the kitten’s face, thinking seriously before deciding, “Since Lori picked you up, you can take her last name. We’ll call you Pudge Bellamy,”

Pudge Bellamy: *Meow~* (Excuse me, human, where are your manners?)

“You agree?” Harold grabbed its little paws and clapped them against his own hand as if sealing a deal. “If you agree, meow.”

Pudge Bellamy: *Meow, meow~* (This feline does NOT agree.)

Harold: “Look at that, you agreed twice.”

Pudge: “?”

“Let me introduce myself.” Harold held the cat, his mood drastically improving. “I’m Harold Houston, Lorelei’s husband.”

“Since you call her Mommy, you should call me Daddy.”

Harold tilted the kitten’s chin up to force eye contact, dead serious as he tried to

teach it to speak. “Come on, Pudge. Say Daddy.”

What cat allergy?

It had all been a trick to fool that girl!

Pudge: *Meow~* (I do not consent to this marriage.)

Harold: “Good boy!”

Pudge: *Meow~* (Despicable human.)

One man and one cat spent a surprisingly harmonious night in the guest room.

The next day.

By the time Harold opened his eyes, it was already 10:00 AM.

Pudge Bellamy was curled up on his chest, sleeping soundly and purring like a motor.

“Sleep by yourself.”

Harold gently moved the kitten to the side of the mattress, muttering, “I’m going to go find your mother.”

But the moment he stepped out, he noticed the master bedroom door was wide open.

The bed was perfectly made.

Empty.

Harold frowned. He went downstairs to the living room but saw no sign of Lorelei.

Instead, resting squarely on the dining table, were signed divorce papers.

And a few lines scribbled on a notepad.

[An urgent matter came up at the

boutique, have to go to Yalania
