Chapter 1342
[ 633 words ]
“I’m fine, I’m fine.” Luella covered her mouth, frantically winking at Jimmie. “Mr. Tate is just such a nice guy. Thanks for that.”
Jimmie finally realized he had shown way too much concern for her. He certainly didn’t look like a guy whose confession had just been harshly rejected.
“Don’t mention it.”
Jimmie quickly adjusted his expression, sitting back down with perfect composure. “Let’s just eat, everyone.”
“Right.” Luella guiltily picked up her fork, glancing at Juniper and Shanley. “Show’s over. You guys eat too.”
Juniper looked at her, then back at Jimmie, the gears in her head turning furiously. After dinner, Juniper pulled Luella aside to ask the real reason for her sudden return. “To finalize a deal.” Luella pulled out the paperwork, flashing a cheeky grin. “Juniper, whether my master plan works or not all comes down to getting this project signed.”
“Pen!”
Juniper didn’t even glance at the contract. She just held out her hand.
Luella immediately placed the pen in her palm.
A few seconds later, the contract was signed.
“You trust me way too much,” Luella said, flipping through the signed pages with a massive smile. “I could sell you out, and you’d probably still help me count the cash.”
“Try it,” Juniper warned, her eyes narrowing playfully.
“I wouldn’t dare!” Luella tucked the paperwork away. “Seriously, Juniper. Thank you.”
“So what’s this plan of yours?”
Juniper looked up at her. “You said you changed it. Walk me through it.”
She needed to make sure it wasn’t reckless.
“You want to pull Lachlan down from his position and install someone else?”
After hearing Luella’s explanation, Juniper was genuinely surprised. The trap she was setting was massive. One wrong move, and Luella would be buried in it.
“Exactly,” Luella nodded. “Originally, I wanted to be the Executive Chief myself. But I changed my mind.”
“Why?” Juniper tilted her chin, her peripheral vision catching Jimmie in the distance. “Because of Jimmie?”
“He’s part of the reason.” Luella pressed her lips together, her voice dropping. “But honestly… I just want to live my own life now.”
Before Jimmie came along, she felt like Juniper was the only person in the world who cared about her. And since Juniper was madly in love with that old fox Shanley, Luella hadn’t wanted to be a third wheel Throwing herself into her career had seemed like the best option.
But then Jimmie showed up… and showed her what it meant to be loved.
She wanted to try living a normal life for once. She knew her mother would have wanted the same for her.
“Whatever you decide to do, I’ve got your back,” Juniper said. “And like I said before if you ever need me, just say the word.”
“If that old fox wasn’t guarding you like a hawk, I’d seriously kiss you right now.”
“Well, then you definitely wouldn’t be walking out of this house.”
“Why?”
“Because Shanley would break your legs,” Juniper said, laughing.
“Ruthless.” Luella picked up her bag, shooting a deliberate glance in Jimmie’s direction. “Alright, Juniper, I’m gonna head out.”
“Okay.”
Juniper nodded, watching her leave. She figured Luella was just leaving early to avoid the awkwardness with Jimmie Since her plans hadn’t succeeded yet, Luella probably didn’t Want to drag Jimmie into hermess, which was why she was ‘rejecting’ his advances.
But-
The way the two of them had acted tonight left a serious shadow of doubt in Juniper’s mind.
Shortly after Luella’s departure, Jimmie made an excuse and prepared to leave as well.
“Sure.”
Juniper didn’t press him, watching him walk out the door.
However, the moment he was gone, Juniper’s suspicions boiled over. She immediately followed him.
“Juniper…” Shanley grabbed her hand, looking confused. “Where are you going?”

“Absolutely.”
Shanley had a pretty good idea of what was going on. He fell into step beside her.
Tonight was going to be a very entertaining show.
