Chapter 1414
[ 655 words ]
“I don’t need to recite it anymore?”
Juniper stopped mid-sentence, casting a glance at the panel of judges sitting in the front row.
The judges quickly shook their heads. “No, no, no, not at all.”
In that livestreamed lecture video, many of the people taking notes were their own mentors and seniors.
If she was their teachers’ teacher, didn’t that make her their grandmaster?
“Oh.”
She shifted her gaze back to the audience, the corners of her lips curling up as she spoke with slow, deliberate ease. “Is there anyone else who has a problem? Step forward!”
She, Juniper Payne, specialized in putting arrogant people in their place!
“???”
The medical students instinctively turned their heads toward Leland, who had been acting so high and mighty just moments ago.
Leland silently lowered his head, pretending to be invisible.
He never imagined she was actually Dr. Nocturne.
He especially never imagined that the legendary doctor would actually attend classes in their department.
Wait a minute.
If that was the case, didn’t that mean he could brag to everyone that Dr. Nocturne was his classmate?
That sounded pretty damn cool!
“Leland, don’t you have something to say?” one of the students asked pointedly.
“What did I say?!”
Leland scowled, stubbornly trying to defend himself. “Weren’t all of you doubting her just a second ago? It wasn’t just me!”
The other students sneered.
Sure, they had their doubts, but he was the one actively fanning the flames and maliciously slandering her.
Did he think they were stupid?
The audience fell into a dead silence, broken only when Shanley stood up and chimed in, “I never doubted it for a second. Please don’t be mad at me, Ms. Payne.” Everyone else: “???”
Was Mr. Schwartz seriously indulging in PDA right now?
Yup, he definitely was!
Looking at him, the corners of her lips lifted, and much of the frustration in her chest melted away.
“Since my signature is valid, let’s proceed with the competition as planned.”
She pulled her gaze away and looked at Jenna with a faint smile. “Sorry for holding everyone up.”
“Thank you, Juniper.”
Jenna’s heart did a little flip as she realized her mistake, quickly correcting herself, “Ah, no, thank you, Dr. Nocturne.”
“Don’t mention it.”
With that, Juniper stepped down
from the stage. As she walked past
Professor Dawson, the man

incredibly deferential Please take. my seat.”
How could they possibly let Dr. Nocturne sit all the way in the back row?!
“It’s fine.” She shook her head, her expression softening a bit. “My fiancé is sitting in the back.”
Hearing this, her fiancé proudly straightened his jacket, a smug, triumphant smile spreading across his handsome face.
She walked straight up to him.
Seeing him grinning like a crackedet
watermelon, she furrowed her brow slightly. “What are you smi
at?
“Nothing.”
Shanley grabbed her hand, his lips still curved upward. “Your fiancé is just happy.”
She pouted and shoved him back down into his seat.
He was so easy to please.
From there on out.
The competition continued according to protocol.
After a lengthy deliberation, Jenna was awarded third place.
The top two projects were genuinely better than hers.
But the fact that she had managed to beat out so many competitors and secure a
spot in the top three proved she was incredibly talented.
Juniper was more than satisfied with the result.
“Let’s go.”
Having watched the entire event, she pulled Shanley up and they left early.
She had just overheard someone whispering about trying to get her autograph and a photo.
Way too annoying.
Before leaving, she had Felton pass a message to Peter, promising to invite him to dinner some other time.
The old geezer was probably scared half to death.
Once they were in the car…
Shanley suddenly leaned close, wrapping an arm around her waist as he murmured, “Call Professor Michelle on video again.”
“?”
She stared at him, utterly confused.

“No, you don’t!”
She rejected him instantly.
She was just a little brat at thirteen, acting and talking like a total child.
She was always making a fool of herself back then.
