Chapter 1520
[ 617 words ]
“You are.”
Shanley leaned forward, using his thumb to gently wipe a drop of fruit juice from the corner of her mouth. A wicked, playful smile tugged at his lips. “You did wonderfully, Ms. Payne.”
“Tch.”
She shot him a mock glare, closed out of her game, and draped herself lazily across his chest.
Opening her messaging app, she found Janet’s contact.
Juniper: [How is Aunt Saskia feeling?]
Janet: [We just left the clinic for her check-up. Everything looks great! *Cute sticker*]
Juniper: [Awesome. I’ll bring you some good food when I’m back.]
Janet sent a voice memo: “Thanks! Love you so much, mwah!”
A second after sending it, Janet suddenly realized something and carefully typed out: [Your… fiancé isn’t right next to you, is he?]
Juniper: [He is.]
Janet: [Oh no, did he hear that?]
Her future brother-in-law was notoriously possessive. Would he be mad that she just confessed her love to his girl?
Juniper: [He heard. But he wouldn’t dare say a word.]
Janet: […]
Her cousin really had her man perfectly trained.
Ending the chat, Juniper tilted her chin up and placed a light kiss on the man’s lips. “Janet says she loves me. Do you have a problem with that?”
“Heh.”
He wrapped an arm around her waist, a devastatingly charming smirk forming on his face. “Do you honestly think your boyfriend is that petty? That I’d get jealous over anyone and everyone?”
“Oh.”
She blinked, her red lips parting slightly. “So that kiss just went to waste.”
“Mm.”
He nodded, gently tilting her chin back up to press his lips firmly against hers, murmuring against her mouth. “Here, let me give it back.”
Juniper: “???”
Typical capitalist. He never took a loss on an investment.
Putting her phone away.
Janet held her mother’s arm as they stood by the curb trying to hail a cab.
A sleek black Jeep suddenly pulled up in front of them.
The window rolled down.
Melvin Steele appeared in the driver’s seat.
He looked as if he had just driven straight from the track, dressed in a solid black racing suit with the collar slightly unzipped, revealing a sharp, attractive jawline. His hair was charmingly messy, perfectly complementing his striking features and giving him an effortlessly rugged look.
“Mr. Steele.”
Seeing him, Janet stood at attention and gave a polite, albeit slightly stiff, greeting.
His smile vanished instantly, his mouth twitching. He wasn’t dead, so why was she greeting him so formally?
He thought, *Please, stop being so polite to me!*
“Mr. Steele, what brings you out here?” Saskia asked, surprised but smiling.
of
“Just passing by.” He hopped out the vehicle and smoothly took the bags from her hands. “It’s almost impossible to get a cab around this time. Hop in Tll take you back III
“That might be an inconvenience…” Saskia had always hated imposing on others.
“We’re practically family. What’s a little inconvenience?”
He tossed their bags into the trunk and pulled the back door open. “Get in. It’s right
on my way.”
“Alright then.”
Saskia offered an apologetic smile. “Thank you so much, Mr. Steele.”
“Thank you, Mr. Steele,” Janet echoed, sliding into the backseat and sitting as primly as a schoolgirl.
“There’s water and snacks back there, help yourselves.”
He buckled his seatbelt, his eyes darting to the rearview mirror to catch a glimpse of the girl.
She was wearing a casual cargo skirt paired with a simple white tee, her hair tied back in a neat ponytail. Her face was delicate and pate, genuinely delightful sight.
“Was there somewhere else you needed to be?”
Noticing that he still hadn’t put the car in drive, Saskia asked curiously.
Janet leaned forward slightly, blinking in confusion.
“Nope.”
He cleared his throat, immediately shifted gears, and drove straight toward the Cloudscape Community.
At 10:00 PM.
The plane touched down at Eclara International Airport, where Felton and Flint were already waiting by the arrivals gate.
“Ms. Payne, Boss,” the two men greeted respectfully as they took their luggage.
