Chapter 1579
[ 594 words ]
If he couldn’t even win over his future mother-in-law, he didn’t deserve to marry her
daughter.
“What a loving sister.”
Melvin gritted his teeth as he listened, though he still forced a strained smile.
After the two of them walked out.
Everyone in the room stopped what they were doing and stared at them in unison.
“Ahem.”
Melvin held Janet’s hand, smiling smugly. “Allow me to introduce everyone to my girlfriend, Janet.”
“Oh wow.”
Luella Langley was the first to play along, teasing deliberately, “Such an amazing girl, and you actually managed to win her over. Not bad at all.”
“Exactly.”
Coralie Quill curled her red lips, chiming in softly. “Janet, if he ever dares to bully you, just tell us. With this many of us around, we could slap him into next week.”
Ebony Fox: “Agreed.”
She had always treated Janet like her own little sister, and now that sister was becoming a sister-in-law.
That worked too.
They were all family anyway, so it was easy to accept.
The others nodded in agreement, smiling at Janet with immense warmth.
Then, they turned to shower Melvin with warnings:
“You better treat Janet right, or we’ll tear you apart.”
“I’ll break your legs.”
“Dibs on his arms.”
“Let’s just put a bullet in him and be done with it,” Ebony said seriously, taking a sip
of water. “Actually, never mind, that’s a waste of a bullet. Let’s just toss him into the ocean and feed him to the sharks.”
“Damn!”
Melvin, who had been riding high on happiness, immediately dropped his smile. “Are you guys my friends and family or what?”
Juniper: “That depends entirely on your behavior.”
Melvin’s mouth hung open. After a few seconds, he gave her a thumbs-up. “Unbelievable.”
The way she was backing Janet up, you’d think he was the one without blood ties to the family.
The gathering ended.
Those with partners took their significant others and drove off.
Kurt Schwartz had taken a cab here today.
When he walked out of the restroom to find the room empty, it felt like the sky had fallen.
How was he supposed to hail a cab at this hour?
And Ebony hadn’t even waited for him.
He was a little annoyed.
Just as he was feeling utterly miserable, Ebony’s figure suddenly appeared in front of him.
“Ebony!” Seeing her, Kurt’s eyes lit up. “Why did you come back? Were you looking for me?” he asked excitedly.
*Oh my god.*
He was so moved. Ebony still cared about him after all.
“You’re overthinking it. I came back for my keys.” Ebony shot him an indifferent glance, grabbed here motorcycle keys off the table, and turned to leave.
“Ebony!”
Kurt’s face changed, and he immediately chased after her. “Give me a ride, please?
It’s impossible to get a cab around here at this hour.”
“No.”
Ebony hopped onto her bike, rejecting him without an ounce of mercy.
“Please, I’m begging you.”
Kurt grabbed the bike, refusing to let go. “For a fit, incredibly handsome, sunny young guy like me to walk alone in the dark… that’s highly dangerous.”
“?”
Ebony turned her head, looking at him as if he were a complete idiot. She didn’t hold
back: “Try talking like a normal person, or I’ll run you over.”
“Ebony, please give me a ride.”
Kurt tilted his head up, his eyes wide and utterly pathetic. “I have training
tomorrow. If get back too late won’t get enough sleep, and if I’m exhausted tomorrow, it’ll drag down
your session, won’t it?”
Ebony thought about it for a moment before grumbling in annoyance, “Get on.”
“Yes, ma’am!”
His scheme successful, Kurt immediately scrambled onto the back of the motorcycle.
Staring at the woman’s impossibly slender waist, he asked weakly, “Ebony, I’m scared. Can I hold onto you?”
Ebony: “If you want me to snap your wrists, be my guest.”
Kurt smirked. “So fierce.”
