Seeing Janet’s face pale, Melvin quickly explained, “I’m kidding. I just wanted to show my loyalty. Your mom wouldn’t actually stab me.”
“I wouldn’t be so sure about that,” Janet bit her lip.
Since her father passed away, she was her mother’s entire world. Growing up, her mom had endured so much hardship just to make sure she was never hurt. If anyone dared to bully her, her mother would absolutely fight them to the death.
“Let’s head out first, otherwise Juniper’s going to think I’m picking on you.” Melvin put his jacket on and grabbed Janet’s hand to lead her out.
Janet was forced to follow Melvin out, her mind a chaotic mess.
“Does Juniper know?” Janet asked.
“What if she does?” Melvin asked, sounding quite cocky. “If she didn’t agree, would you actually listen to her?”
Janet stopped in her tracks, glaring at Melvin in exasperation. “I *would* listen to her.”
Juniper was a great judge of character. If she felt they weren’t a good match, then they definitely weren’t.
Melvin fell silent, looking at her in shock. “In your heart, Juniper is more important than I am.”
“Yeah.” Janet nodded like an obedient child. “Juniper means everything to me.”
Without Juniper, she would never have gotten into Eclara University. And she definitely wouldn’t have met Melvin.
So…she would never do anything in the name of love that would make Juniper unhappy.
“Fair enough.” Melvin was disappointed for a few seconds before quickly making peace with it. “I’ll just have to love you twice as much to make up for the part of your heart that belongs to Juniper.”
Janet stared at him, touched, her heart racing.
Melvin stared right back, his eyes overflowing with tenderness and affection.
Just as they were locked in a deeply romantic gaze, a soft sound drifted from behind them.
Juniper had just stepped out of the restroom. She unhurriedly wiped the water from her hands, staring at them with a teasing half-smile. “Did I interrupt something?”
“J-Juniper!”
Startled, Janet immediately yanked her hand out of Melvin’s grasp, staring at her with a guilty, panicked expression as she stuttered, “Y-You… we…”
“Juniper?” Juniper arched an eyebrow, a smirk playing on her lips. “Shouldn’t you be changing how you address me?”
“N-No, no need.” Janet was so anxious her face turned white, her words tumbling over each other. “About this, I…”
“What are you so afraid of?” Juniper tossed the paper towel into the trash and walked over to Janet, a faint smile on her face. “As long as you’re happy it doesn’t matter who you’re with You don’t need to worry about what I think.”
“But…..” Janet bit her lip, all the color draining from her cheeks. “You really don’t
mind? That I’m with Mr. Steele?”
“Of course not.”
Juniper patted her head
affectionately, her eyes crinkling
with a mile. “From now on, well just
keep our titles separate. call you my sister-in-law, and you can still caltme Juniper.”
Janet blinked. “Huh?”
“Honestly, I’ve known my brother was after you for a while now.”
Juniper’s voice dropped low. “I kept an eye on him and realized he was genuinely in
love with you. That’s the only reason I let him pursue you.”
“?”
Janet glanced back at Melvin, her brow furrowing.
So Juniper had known all along?
And here she was, worried sick about it.
“Don’t worry, with me around, he wouldn’t dare mistreat you.” Juniper leaned in, whispering in Janet’s ear, “If he ever does anything to hurt you, I’ll personally take him out for you.”
Janet stood frozen in place, feeling both shocked and deeply moved. “Thank you so much, Juniper.”
“You’re welcome, sister-in-law,”
Juniper teased on purpose. “I’m the one who gave the green light on our family’s end, so you have nothing to worry about. As for Saskia that’s a mess my brother will have to clean up himself.” sŵnovels
