Chapter 1577

“Janet, you were so flustered just now. You definitely have feelings for me too, right?”

Melvin Steele gently turned Janet by the shoulders so she was facing him directly, the depth of emotion in his eyes startlingly intense.

“If you just tell me you don’t like me, I’ll never bother you again.”

“Mr. Steele.” Janet tilted her head up, meeting the man’s gaze. “How can you be so sure you actually like me, and this isn’t just some passing whim?” she asked softly.

“How can I be sure?”

Melvin was stumped by the question, unsure of how to answer for a moment.

“Yeah.” Janet nodded seriously, her glossy lips parting. “I’m someone who loves deeply. Once my mind is made up, it doesn’t change easily. If you lose interest in me later and leave, I’ll be devastated.”

Her eyes dimmed, and her tone grew solemn. “Relationships aren’t a game. You told me to think it over carefully. What about you? Have you thought it through? I don’t know what I can do to make you believe my feelings are genuine.”

Saying that, Melvin pulled a stack of cards and keys from his pocket.

“These are all my bank cards and the keys to my properties. The PINs are written on the back, and I can transfer the deeds into your name.”

Melvin cupped her face, his eyes red-rimmed as he spoke word by word. “When that old fox Shanley chased after my sister, he used this exact same trick. If you still don’t feel secure, we can put it in writing.”

Melvin thought for a moment before adding earnestly, “If I ever let you down or treat you badly, you can have the assassins from Subterra Vanguard or the Sigma Network take me out.”

“You’re Juniper’s brother. Why would they ever assassinate you?”

Janet was astounded.

“Brother, schmother,” Melvin grumbled, feeling thoroughly wronged. “In Juniper’s heart, you’re way more important than I am.”

The moment the two of them had an issue, the first thing Juniper cared about was whether Janet was mad at him.

Listening to him, the corners of Janet’s lips couldn’t help but curve up.

“Let’s go. I’m taking you to change the names on the deeds right now.” Melvin grabbed her hand, standing up to leave’ll give you everything. Once I dead broke, you wont have to worry about me being a jerk.”

“You don’t need to do that.” Janet pulled him back, blinking softly. “Mr. Steele, let’s just try dating for two weeks. If it doesnt work out welk break it off before things get complicated.”

Two weeks. She shouldn’t fall too deeply in that amount of time.

“Really?”

Hearing her relent, Melvin immediately pulled her into a tight embrace. “We are definitely going to work out. Trust me.”

“Cough, cough.”

Janet was squeezed so tightly she could barely breathe. “Let’s keep this a secret from my mom for now,” she murmured hoarsely.

She had spent every day reminding herself to treat Juniper’s family with the utmost respect as her elders.

If her mother found out she had done something so incredibly rebellious… She might actually have a heart attack from the shock.

“Is it because I’m older?” Melvin pursed his lips, feeling a little stung.

“That’s part of it.”

Melvin went dead silent.

“Mom always told me to treat you like a senior family member…” Janet frowned slightly, muttering under her breath. “Going from Juniper’s cousin to her sister-in-law feels a little strange.”

“Okay.” Melvin agreed immediately. “We’ll confess to your mom once we’re official. If she doesn’t agree, I’ll get down on my knees and beg until she does.”

Janet blinked, asking softly, “And what if she still says no even after you beg?”

“Hmm?”

Melvin paused for a second before answering with utmost sincerity, “There’s always a way, Her heart isn’t made of stene. Worst case scenario, when I’m on my knees, I’ll hand her a knife and let her stab me a couple of times to vent her anger.” Cóntent
