Judy’s POV
I didn’t speak right away.
The words “investigation” and “cheated” echoed in my head like they didn’t belong
to me, like Irene had said them to the wrong person. My hands felt cold, even though the room was warm.
“I don’t understand,” I said, shaking my head as I tried to process what she was saying.
As if she knew I would need the proof, she turned her phone to face me. I had been off the radar for most of the day and night while we dealt with this Megan situation and visited Levi earlier at the prison.
My mother had called me earlier, but I turned off my phone right after I texted her, and I hadn’t bothered to turn it on again the entire time. Now I’m worried that once I turn it back on, I’ll be bombarded with text messages, missed calls, and news updates.
My head was spinning.
I stared at her phone screen, dumbfounded; sure enough… There I was a picture of me kissing Gavin at the competition.

“Even though you didn’t announce your relationship until after the competition, they are saying there is new evidence that proves you had relations prior. Which makes my father biased during the competition,” she continued to explain, paraphrasing the article.
“But I didn’t cheat,” I said, shaking my head. “You know that, right?”
“Of course I know that,” she told me without hesitation. “But what I think doesn’t matter. They will think I’m biased, too. This is about what everyone else thinks, and now there is an open investigation.”
I shook my head, still not believing what she was saying.
“Gavin is the most powerful Lycan Chairman,” I reminded her. “There’s no way they would mess with him like that. An open investigation on a Landry is a suicide mission.”
Irene shook her head.
“Not in this case. This goes even bigger than my father,” she told me. “This involves all the chairmen, council, and anyone with a rank. This could end up being like one
of those world voting situations that daddy always talked about.”
My heart stopped in my chest because she was right. I’ve learned about world voting in the academy It’s only ever happened once, and the thought of it happening again because of me sat in the pit of my stomach like lead. This meant that everybody in the world would have a chance to vote after reviewing the publicized evidence of my actions… once they made up their minds, there would be a voting period, and by the end, they would have precise results, whether I’m actually guilty or not.
I could be found guilty, and my status and reputation would be stripped from me. Olivia would get what she wants because no way would the pack let me be Luna after that, and if the pack rejects me as a whole, in our politics, Gavin would have to reject me as well. He can’t Have a Luna that the entire pack
rejects, because then they would
walk all over me.
I had to lean against something before I fell over; my breathing was suddenly
difficult, and my heart was racing rapidly against my chest.
Irene was by my side in an instant; an arm wrapped around me, and concern was apparent in her eyes.
“I didn’t mean to upset you,” she told me softly. “I’m sorry for that. But you should be warned if you go anywhere around here… everybody is talking about you. It’s only been a day, but word has traveled around like wildfire.”
I nodded, relieved that she had warned me, even if I did feel sick to my stomach.
I let out a slow breath and rubbed my palm over my stomach without realizing it. The baby shifted faintly like a reminder to stay upright.
“So, what am I supposed to do now?” I asked.
Irene smirked, almost looking like herself again.
She folded her arms across her chest and studied me with her sharp eyes for a moment; I felt uncomfortable under her scrutiny, but she took a step back to really assess me again.
“Firstly, we need to do something about your wardrobe,” she said, making me glance down at my hoodie and yoga pants.
“What about them?” I asked. “It was a long drive, and it’s not like I went anywhere important.”
She rolled her eyes.
“That kind of thinking is what’s
getting you into this mess. You need to realize that literally everything. matters Everything you say…. Do… wear. eat… it all matters in the eyes of the public. You are with my father, who is a famous icon, a powerful businessman, and a Lycan… he’s always in the limelight. As someone who was born into that same light, I know how this world works Your first encounter with fame was, winning the gamma competition, which was huge for you, yes… but after that… you had an image to maintain, and you’ve been tanking it.”
