“He won’t let us in,” Irene said again, “He’s being a complete dick.”
“Give me a second,” Gavin muttered as he pulled out his phone.
Irene had the look of triumph on her face, and then she motioned for me to follow her. Nan and I trailed after her, wondering what she was doing. Then, we saw her approach the bouncer again.
“I’m warning you… You better let us in,” she said, raising her voice a little louder.
My chest tightened; Irene was right earlier when she said we shouldn’t cause a scene. I wondered why she suddenly changed her mind.
“You again?” The bouncer asked, rolling his eyes. “Did you get me an ID proving your story?”
“I don’t need my ID… I’ve never needed it before. I understand that you’re new around here… but you don’t want to cross my family or me,” Irene said through her teeth.
I could hear the emotion in her voice, and I knew this was much more than some asshole trying to keep us out of an event.
“I’m not going to tell you again,” the bouncer said, narrowing his eyes. “I have a direct order from the host of this party not to let anyone in who didn’t RSVP and to keep an eye out for any impostors.”
“We aren’t impostors,” Irene said, scowling.
“Do you really think you’re the first ones today to tell me that they are important and need to be at this party?”
Irene was about to say something more, but then the small gasps around us drew my attention to Gavin, who was walking through the crowd. His face was stone cold and very much like the Gavin I first met.
The bouncer’s face paled at the sight of him, and he stepped back.
“Alpha Landry?” The bouncer stammered. “What an honor, Sir.”
“Daddy, that’s the guy being a dick,” Irene said, folding her arms across her chest and giving the guy a smug smile.
His eyes widened, and his face paled even more if that was possible. Gavin’s glare was chilling; even I had to look away.
“Is there some kind of problem here?” Gavin asked, his tone deep.
“No, Alpha,” the bouncer said, his body shaking. “Of course, not… I didn’t know she was your daughter… I thought she was lying.”
“I told him it was me,” Irene said, rolling her eyes.
“What’s your name?”
“Alex,” the bouncer replied quickly. “I just started.”
“You’re new around here?”
Alex nodded.
“Yes, Alpha.”
“Then let me clear something up,” Gavin said, his voice chilling. “If you disrespect
my daughter or my mate, you’re disrespecting me. And you don’t want to be disrespecting me because I can make things very difficult for you, even if you live on neutral territory.”
“I……..I didn’t mean any harm… I—”
“Alex!” A deep and powerful voice said from a short distance.
A bulky man stalked over, his eyes narrowed and lip curling in anger.
“Boss?” Alex asked, his eyes wide, clearly not expecting to see his boss walking towards him. Now he was even more tense and looked like he was about to jump out of his skin.
“What’s this I’m hearing you’re upsetting the Landry’s. If the Landry’s want to get into something, you let them in. That’s the rule around here,” his boss growled. “You’ve upset the wrong family.”
“I thought they were lying,” Alex said. “I had no idea what the Landry family looked like. Please accept my apology.”
“You’re fired, Alex,” his boss said. “I’m going to take over your post for the rest of the night. Get out of my face before I get violent.”
I didn’t hear the rest of the
conversation. Gavin was guiding me away and through the doors of the party, Irene and Nan following after us. Once we were inside, I thought I’d be able to breathe a little better having passed through the doors, but my chest felt tight, and my stomach rolled with nerves.
As we searched through the crowd, trying to get a glimpse of Olivia or Lila and put a stop to this whole
thing, my
eves found Daisy and i
heart dropped. She was completely naked, walking around serving
drinks. She looked thin and
miserable, and I knew it probably had something to do with Noah.
I needed to break her curse and help her before she lost herself entirely. I spotted Irene arguing with yet another person who either looked at her wrong or bumped into her. She’s been testy this past day, and it made me worry a her even more. I
knew it probably had something to
do with Chuck.
I had to figure out how to break these curses. I just needed to figure out how.
