“Enya do not make me give you an Alpha command. This is EXACTLY what I was talking about earlier today. You are putting me in a position where I’ll be forced to use my power over you, and I don’t want to EVER do that. So please, I am asking you again, shift.”
This time, she listens. She shifts but stays on the ground, looking up at
I crouch, not liking the position of me standing over her. I don’t want to be threatening, especially not with her.
“We’re going to talk and we’re going to talk now,” I say to her.
“There’s nothing to talk about Christian,” she says, but the catch in her voice betrays her feelings.
“I disagree. You have two choices, Enya. You can talk to me here. Or you can go to the packhouse, put some fucking clothes on, then spend what’s left of warrior training punching me and getting this anger out before you talk to me. Either way, we’re having a conversation and we‘ re having it today.”
I watch her lips tremble, and she looks away. I stay still, waiting for her to decide which option to take.
“That was my first kiss, and you pulled away and said it was a mistake,” she says, turning to look at me with tormented eyes that nearly break me.
“Tell me how that’s not a rejection.”

I watch Christian sigh, most of the fight going out of his posture.
On top of everything else, the man is built like he was made by the Moon Goddess herself. He has broad muscular shoulders that slide in a deep V to his narrow hips. His sculpted chest flows into a chiseled eight–pack with an adonis belt that makes my mouth water and my tongue desperate to lick it. His muscular legs are tight with the force of his run and what’s between his legs… holy mother Moon Goddess! I had no idea they were that large or long or thick.
I shake my head, getting rid of the mental image of Christian standing in front of me, panting like furious god ready to rain hellfire on me. I also have to push away the desire to know exactly what that hellfire would feel like.
It’s the reminder that he doesn’t want me that has it feeling like a bucket of ice water was just thrown over me, washing away the heat that his body caused. He’s not for me. He’s made that very clear.
“I didn’t say it was a mistake,” he says, softly and slowly.
“You said…”
“I said I shouldn’t have done it!” he interrupts. “And I stand by that. Geez, Enya, this right here is a perfect example of exactly WHY I shouldn’t have done it.”
He stands and begins pacing, running his hand through his hair. I watch that sexy wayward curl drop back over his forehead.
“Rejecting you would have looked a whole lot like what I did with Violet this morning. THAT was a rejection. I made it perfectly clear to her and anyone else that was watching that I have absolutely no
interest in her.

He steps towards me, his eyes intense with his emotions. “You,
however, try my patience, you make me feel so fucking out of control that I want to pull my hair out, and every time you mouth off to me; all I want to do is teach you a lesson with MY mouth. I have been attracted to you since the moment I first saw you. Under normal circumstances, that wouldn’t be a problem. But for some reason, Enya, I don’t seem to have any control when it comes to you. And that’s not fair to you. I am supposed to be helping you work through your grief, helping you regain your footing after losing your parents, helping Shane claim his pack so he’s ready to take over in two years. I am NOT supposed to be losing control and kissing the woman I’m supposed to be protecting.”
“But I wanted it, too,” I say, my own voice sounding small.
