“How about we go to the office?” I say, waiting for her to step away from the table, then following her.
‘Everything okay, Alpha?” Braden asks me in the mind link.
‘Let’s keep watch on that entire group. The others seemed to settle, but I don’t trust Steven, especially once Dorian is out of the cells.‘
‘Will do.‘
As we pass Shane, I let him know that I’ll find him when I’m done talking with Enya. I want to know his thoughts on that group as well.
When we get to the office, I sit beside her.
“First, I meant what I said earlier. You have great instincts. We needed to be at that table. That situation was and probably still is a timebomb waiting to go off. I’ll talk to Shane and I just spoke to Braden, but I need you to keep your eyes open and let me know if you see anything concerning as well.”
“I can do that,” she says.
“Good. Now, the reason I brought you in here is I want to talk about earlier.”
“What about earlier?” she asks.
“When we were talking about the Academy over lunch, you became defensive. I’d like to know why. I don’t want anything interfering with our ability to develop a strong, trusting relationship. I’d like for us to

have open and honest conversation and when something bothers you. I d like to get to the bottom of it so I can address it and we can move past it.”
I watch as her eyes go wide and the blush spreads across her cheeks again. Well, this should be interesting.
Enya
Shit! Shit! Shit! He wants to talk about earlier? Hell no! I’m not telling him that I was jealous of the thought of him with someone else. I’m not telling him that I’m ridiculously attracted to him! I’ve only known the man a couple of days. I’d sound like a silly schoolgirl.
“I wasn’t defensive,” I say, crossing my arms over my chest.
Dammit, my voice and my actions are at complete odds with my words. I force myself to uncross my arms.
Christian tilts his head at me. “I would like for us to be honest with each other, Enya. We can’t build trust without honesty. Telling me you weren’t defensive when you’re obviously defensive now isn’t a good way to build trust.”
Damn the man! How does know this?
But that gives me an idea, something I CAN be honest about.
I stand and begin pacing. “You want honesty?” I ask.
“Yes. We won’t be able to work through this unless you’re honest with me.”
I turn and glare at him. “Why do you have to be so perfect?”
He blinks, staring at me a moment before bursting into laughter.
