I nod and immediately reach out to Christian letting him know that Judith has wolfsbane in her system.
“We need to get Judith to the pack hospital,” Linda says.
“Why? What’s wrong with me?” she asks.
‘Enya, the Council is here. I need you with me,‘ Christian says as Linda tells Judith that she’s been poisoned.
‘Judith is going to the pack hospital,‘ I tell him.
‘My father is there. I’ll let him know to keep an eye on her.‘
“Judith, can you make it to the hospital?” I ask her.
“I’ll help her,” Linda says.
“Alpha, who did this? Why would someone poison me?” she asks.
“That’s what we’re going to find out. The Council has just arrived. I need to meet with them, but I’ll come check on you as soon as possible. Alpha Sebastian is over at the hospital. If you have any concerns at all, reach out to him.”
I turn and look at Linda. “We already know of one betrayal in the hospital. I will not tolerate another one. If anything happens to Judith, I’m holding you personally responsible. Do you understand?”
“Yes, Alpha. I’ll make sure she gets treated and remains safe until you arrive.”

I nod, then help her get Judith up. I walk with them out of the room.
Christian steps up and looks at her. “Go get treated. We’ll check on you soon. Judith,” he says to her. “Linda, if anything happens to her in the hospital…”
“Alpha Enya already told me I’m responsible for her, Alpha,” she says.
“Good. Make sure she stays safe.”
We watch them walk away then he turns to look at me. “Ready?”
“I don’t know. What do I need to be ready for?” I ask him.
“Anything. This is not good. I should have anticipated that something like this could happen.”
“You’re not perfect, Christian. You’re doing so much already. Don’t let them say this is your fault,” I say as we walk out.
“Agreed. You’ve done more for us than they have, Christian. They’re the ones who took their time getting back to us,” Shane says.
Christian stops outside the packhouse door on the front porch, waiting for the Council to drive up. Shane and I take positions on either side of him. He didn’t ask us to, but I know my brother feels the same way I do. We’re not letting the council blame Christian for any of this
When the cars pull up, an older gentleman, obviously an Alpha, steps out of the back of an SUV. There are two SUVS carrying eight people plus two drivers.
“Alpha Christian,” the man says.
“Councilman Johnathon. Welcome to Alpha Shane’s pack.”

The man’s eyes track to Shane and then to me.
“You must be Alpha Shane and Alpha Enya,” he says.
“That’s correct,” Shane says, as the others get out of the car.
“Let me introduce you to the other council members here today,” he says, gesturing to the people getting out of the car. “Councilman Felix, Councilwoman Zara, and Councilwoman Charlotte,” he says, gesturing to each as he introduces them.
“We’ve also brought two doctors as well as two financial strategists to review the information around the deaths of Alpha Colin and Luna Ciara.”
“Welcome everyone. I am Alpha Christian, the temporary Alpha here to manage this pack until Alpha Shane comes of age. This is Alpha Shane, and this is Alpha Enya, the Alpha heirs of this pack,” Christian says, introducing us.
“Before we begin, council members, I need to inform you that there was a murder in the pack overnight.”
