Chapter 1463
[ 634 words ]
Harold looked down, glancing at the chest beneath his shirt.
Well-defined muscles, not an ounce of excess fat.
He was glad that despite his busy work schedule, he had kept up with his workouts and maintained himself so well.
Lorelei had no idea what was going through the man’s head, still admiring the necklace in her hands.
“Whenever is fine,” Harold said casually. “We’re having dinner at my family’s place tomorrow. That sister of mine is a terrible secret-keeper. Since she’s seen you, she’s going to tell the whole family the minute she gets back.”
He didn’t want the rest of them coming over in batches to sneak peeks at her.
“Do I need to prepare anything?”
Since she’d agreed to play along, she was determined to act the part flawlessly.
“No need.” Harold shook his head. “Just bring yourself.”
“Won’t that seem rude?” Lorelei asked.
Eleanor was a high-society lady from a long line of scholars. Lorelei had grown up by her side, carefully molded by her guidance. She placed a heavy emphasis on proper etiquette.
“Rude?”
Harold pushed her wheelchair over to the sofa, scooped her up, and carried her back to the bed in the bedroom. He looked down at her face, the corners of his lips turning up. “My family doesn’t really care much for etiquette.”
“My eldest brother nearly fell for a guy, bent himself backward and then straightened himself out again.”
“My third brother is a goofball who’s always making moves on people too close to home.”
“My fourth sister is more of a man than most men; even the guys steer clear when she gets into a fight.”
Celine is pregnant, so he doesn’t dare say a bad word about her.
“My sixth sister spends all her time stringing along young pretty boys.”
“And my seventh sister… Well, you just saw her squatting in the bushes.”
Listening to Harold’s brief introduction, Lorelei’s eyes widened, her emotions in a tangled knot.
They definitely sounded a little… unconventional.
But if Juniper was that much fun, the others certainly wouldn’t be awful.
Thinking this, the knot of anxiety in Lorelei’s chest loosened significantly. “Alright then.”
Lorelei turned her head, suddenly finding herself face-to-face with Harold.
She realized they were still wrapped up in each other.
She was lying on the bed with her arms looped around Harold’s neck. With him hovering over her, the position was incredibly intimate.
She blinked, her face flushing as she quietly tried to pull her hands back.
“It’s caught.” Harold’s expression wasn’t looking too relaxed either, a few faint veins popping on his forehead.
Lorelei looked down, only then realizing that Harold’s zipper had snagged on her lace top.
“Oh no.” Lorelei instinctively tried to sit up, but Harold held her down. “Don’t move, it’ll rip.”
Lorelei froze. No matter how she looked at it, this didn’t feel entirely innocent.
“Your grandmother gave you this top. Let’s not ruin it.”
Harold remembered clearly; it was a birthday gift Eleanor had given her last year.
She loved it and rarely ever brought herself to wear it.
“Then what should we do?” Lorelei was forced to keep her arms around his neck. She could clearly feel his body heat and his heartbeat, her entire face growing redder by the second.
“I’ll fix it.”
Harold’s Adam’s apple bobbed, his voice growing low and hoarse. “I might brush against you.”
“Okay.”
Lorelei gave a soft hum of
agreement. Maintaining this posture, her cheeks burned so hotly she
wished the floor would swallow her whole.
This sight would give anyone the wrong idea.
Lorelei simply squeezed her eyes shut. Every second that passed felt excruciatingly slow.
She didn’t know how long it took.
The tangled fabric was finally freed. Harold let out a breath, his breathing completely ragged. “Got it. The shirt is fine.”
Because he’d been tense for so long,
his body had gone slightly numb
Standing up without his imbes
tsuaki
coordination, he lost his balance and fell right back down.
“Hiss-“
“Mmph—”
He collapsed entirely onto Lorelei, the two of them crashing into a highly intimate
collision.
