Lorelei was so stunned by his words that her eyelashes fluttered frantically like butterfly wings.

Was he seriously thinking about doing *that*?!

At the thought, her mind instantly flashed back to the only time they had ever been intimate, three years ago. Fueled by alcohol, it had been more than a little wild. The bruises on her waist and legs hadn’t faded for over a week.

Not to mention, the man’s stamina was terrifying.

Blushing furiously, she reminded him, “Juniper said no intense physical activity for a while.”

“Yeah.” His lips trailed slowly up her neck, stopping right at her earlobe. His voice was an intoxicating whisper, “Then we’ll just keep things slow and gentle.”

Her face burned crimson. Was that what she meant?!

“Lorelei…” Harold kissed her deeply, over and over, his voice so raspy she could barely make out the words seductive and mesmerizing. “Open up.”

The heat between them became so overwhelming she felt like she couldn’t breathe. All she could do was cling desperately to his shoulders, obediently following his lead.

In a dizzying haze, he carried her into the bedroom with one arm and pressed her into the mattress.

Half-conscious, she suddenly heard a sound.

Turning her head, she realized Pudge Bellamy was sitting squarely on the floor, staring right at them with wide, curious eyes.

Even though he was just a pet, having an audience made her incredibly self- conscious.

She tilted her neck away, dodging his lips, and whispered, “Shut the door.” “Alright.”

Harold noticed the cat too. The corner of his mouth curved into a smirk as he scooped her back up and moved them further into the room.

Everything that followed happened naturally.

True to the doctor’s orders, his movements were incredibly controlled and restrained.

But she was still the one suffering.

She stared up at him with misty, unfocused eyes, her brow deeply furrowed. It was impossible to tell if it was from pain or something else entirely.

The temperature in the room skyrocketed, while the howling wind outside violently rattled the branches against the glass.

The sounds lingered until late into the night before finally fading away.

Hours later.

In the dim, quiet room, Lorelei slept soundly. Her back was turned to him, her hair slightly damp with sweat.

“Lorelei…”

Harold shifted closer, gently pulling her back into his embrace, and pressed a soft kiss to the nape of her neck.

“Enough.”

She frowned, instinctually trying to wriggle away.

“I won’t touch you anymore.” He held her tightly, inhaling her sweet scent, feeling a profound, overwhelming sense of completion.

A fifteen-year-long secret crush.

Her body, her heart-they were finally, completely his.

His deepest wish had come true at last.

The next day.

Lorelei opened her eyes to bright sunshine streaming into the room. The clock read 12:00 PM.

How had she slept so late?

She swung her legs over the edge of the bed, her muscles aching so badly she stumbled twice before she could even stand upright.

After a quick wash, she threw a blanket over her shoulders, slipped on her house shoes, and shuffled out to the living room.

“Meow~”

Soup was simmering on the stove.

Harold, dressed in light gray loungewear, was crouching on the floor hand-feeding Pudge Bellamy as cat treat.

“Keep it down. Don’t wake your mom.”

“Meow~”

Pudge Bellamy was an obedient boy; his meows immediately dropped to a whisper.

As he ate, the cat suddenly glanced back, abandoned his treat, and trotted straight over to Lorelei.

“Morning, Pudge.” She scooped the kitten up into her arms, shot Harold a deeply resentful glare, and turned to walk away.

“You’re awake?”

He quickly closed the distance, wrapping an arm around her waist and letting out a

low chuckle. “Are you mad? Didn’t sleep well?”

“You know perfectly well why I didn’t sleep! she grumbled playfully, glaring at him with flushed, adorable cheeks. “Harold, I only slept for five hours.”

She usually needed a full nine hours to function.

Not only was she sleep-deprived, but she was exhausted.

“I told you no…”

But meeting the man’s deeply meaningful smirk, her voice faltered. She scowled even harder. “Let go. I’m not speaking to you for the rest of the day.”

“It won’t happen again.”

Shameless as ever, he refused to let her go, showering her with apologies. “I’ll listen

to you from now on. When you say stop, I’ll stop.”
