The atmosphere at the Miller family home was calm and peaceful. Althea chose to relax, losing herself in one of her favorite novels-until her phone rang several times, pulling her attention away.
Arsen’s name appeared on the screen, and her body tensed instantly. She answered before the ringing even stopped.
“Yes, Arsen p>
“Mrs. Althea,” his voice was careful, measured. “I need to tell you something p>
That tone alone made Althea sit up straighter. “What happened p>
There was a brief pause on the other end before Arsen spoke again. “Mr. Daven… is undergoing questioning at the prosecutor’s office. This morning, officers arrived with an official summons p>
“What?!” Althea shot to her feet. “Questioning-or is he being detained right now, Arsen?” she cut in sharply.
Arsen let out a quiet breath. “There’s no official detention order p>
Althea closed her eyes for a moment. “But p>
“He’s under heightened supervision,” Arsen continued honestly. “And all company files have been seized for the investigation p>
Arsen’s words made Althea sink back down, her strength draining away. “How could this happen p>
“I’ve already contacted the lawyer handling Mr. Daven’s business cases. I’ve handed over many matters to him. Mr. Daven asked that you remain calm p>
“How can I stay calm?” Althea protested immediately. “Arsen,” her voice trembled but stayed firm, “don’t protect me with half-truths. What is really going on p>
“As I said, Mrs. Althea. I have no intention of concealing anything regarding Mr. Daven’s situation p>
Althea rubbed her temples, exhausted. The news left her completely unsure of what to think. “Then arrange a way for me to visit Daven,” she said finally. “I’m sure he’s anxious, carrying all of this alone p>
“B-but, Mrs p>
“Do you want to argue with me p>
The call ended with a brief remark Althea barely caught. She decided she needed to confirm something. Her steps carried her straight to the living room-just as Nathan arrived. His face was tight with tension.
“Althea,” he said without preamble. “You need to see this p>
Nathan picked up the remote for the flat-screen TV in the living room. Within seconds, the screen filled with nonstop notifications—national news portals, verified social media accounts, short video clips from the prosecutor’s office lobby.
Bold headlines flashed clearly across the screen:

Althea covered her mouth, her breath catching in her throat.
“This… this can’t be real,” she murmured. “They’re reporting it as if my husband is already guilty p>
“All the major outlets went live at the same time,” Nathan replied, his tone restrained. He would be lying if he said he wasn’t angry and unsettled by the midday coverage. Everything had unfolded too quickly-far too neatly. “This isn’t a coincidence p>
“What do you mean, Dad?” Althea asked, confused.
“I’m certain someone planned this,” Nathan said, holding her gaze. “For now, we need to be patient and wait for further developments. There’s no way Chris and Cale don’t know about this. I’m sure they’re already working on something p>
Before Althea could respond, hurried footsteps echoed toward the living room. Josh appeared, his expression confused, his eyes anxious, his discomfort obvious.
“Josh? You’re home already?” Althea asked in surprise.
“Yes. Miss Marta told me to come home right away. Uncle Cale contacted the school, and I spoke to him on the way back p>
“What did Cale say to you, Josh?” Nathan asked, keeping his voice calm.
“He said I need to stay calm while I’m at home. And not to keep watching the news on every platform p>
Althea squeezed her eyes shut. Right. She had to stay calm.
“Then where’s Grace?” she asked.
“Oh, Hans is on his way to pick Grace up from school p>
“Thank God,” Althea breathed, relief washing over her.
“Mom,” Josh said hesitantly. “My friends at school said Papa is in the news again today. They said Papa is irresponsible with his company. Is that true p>
Althea dropped to her knees at once, pulling her son into a tight embrace before the words could cut any deeper.
“Listen to me, sweetheart,” she said gently, even as her chest trembled. “Papa would never do something bad— especially anything that could harm other people. Grandpa knows that too. Right p>
“Your mother is right, Josh,” Nathan said gently. “Calm down. Ignore what people are saying p>
“And for the time being,” Althea added, “you and Grace don’t need to go to school. Just for now p>
Josh looked at his mother intently. He still couldn’t fully grasp what was really happening. Part of him wanted answers, but Uncle Cale’s warning echoed clearly in his mind. “Because of Papa p>

Althea softly stroked his hair. “Because I want you both to be safe p>
“Only temporarily, Josh,” Nathan reassured him, giving his shoulder a firm, supportive pat. “Everything will return to normal. And the bad news about your father will be replaced by a statement proving he’s innocent Completely innocent p>
The gesture wasn’t meant to pressure him-only to offer steady reassurance that there was nothing to fear from what had unfolded that afternoon.
“Go back to the pavilion,” Nathan continued. “There are a few things I need to take care of. Stay calm, Althea.” He looked at her with warm confidence. “I’m certain all of this will pass soon p>
