It wasn’t a request. It was an order.

Lydia frowned, irritation flashing across her face. “Cale-”

“I want to talk to her.”

Lydia held his gaze, clearly displeased with the way he said it. But after a few seconds, she let out a quiet breath. She glanced briefly at Naomi, silently assuring her that everything would be fine.

“Fine,” Lydia said, though reluctance still lingered in her voice. She turned and walked away, leaving the two of them alone in

the room.

The bedroom door closed softly behind her.

Now it was just Cale and Naomi.

And somehow, that made everything feel far more suffocating.

Naomi remained where she stood, unsure of what to do. She didn’t dare sit, didn’t dare move. Her eyes lifted once or twice, only to drop quickly the moment they met his.

Cale stepped closer.

Not fast. Not openly threatening. But enough to make her breath catch.

“I don’t like repeating myself,” he said quietly.

Naomi swallowed hard. “W-what do you mean?”

He stopped right in front of her. The distance between them was too close to be called comfortable. His gaze dipped slightly, as if assessing something, before returning to her face.

“Show me your hand.”

Naomi froze. “I… I don’t understand.”

“Your hand,” Cale repeated, firmer this time. “Show me your left wrist.”

Naomi immediately pulled her hand behind her back on instinct. “No… I can’t.”

The one thing she wanted to hide the most was what marked her left wrist.

It wasn’t something she could erase so easily. And every time the thought crossed her mind, she would remember her uncle’s last words… right before the worst news reached her.

Her family was gone.

There was no one left in this world to hold her up. No one to return to. She was alone, carrying on in a life that no longer had a place for her… and yet she wasn’t allowed to erase the mark on her wrist.

It had been her last promise to her uncle, spoken at the airport before they parted ways.

Years ago.

Cale’s brow lifted slightly. “Can’t… or won’t?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Naomi replied, though her voice had begun to tremble. She shook her head quickly, as if denial alone could shield her. “Please, just let me go. I’m really grateful for your help.”

Cale let out a quiet breath. His eyes stayed fixed on her, unwavering. It felt as though that sharp gaze was scanning her entirely,

stripping away every layer without leaving a trace.

And in that moment, he was certain.

Naomi was part of the Chen bloodline.

There was something about her face… something that reminded him of Mrs. Meylani.

“Show it to me,” Cale said again. This time, there was an unmistakable edge of insistence in his voice.

“No!” Naomi shot back, her tone firm despite the tremor underneath. “Please… I just want to leave. Tell Mrs. Lydia I’m

thankful.”

She was afraid. Anyone could hear it in the way her voice quivered.

But when it came to the mark on her wrist, she refused to yield.

Once had been enough.

Once was enough to be forced into revealing it.

In front of that bastard… Don Falcony.

Cale pressed his fingers against his temple, exhaling softly. “Then…” he said, his voice lowering, “look at this.”

He lifted his arm and rolled up the sleeve of his shirt in one swift motion.

And there it was.

On Cale’s wrist, a tattoo.

Not identical, but unmistakably similar. A circular pattern, sharp lines interwoven with precision. At one end, the lines formed the head of a snake, its fangs bared. On the other, the blade of a sword was etched into the design.

A symbol that could not be mistaken.

Naomi’s eyes widened instantly. The color drained from her face. Her gaze flickered between the tattoo and Cale himself, again and again, as if trying to convince herself she wasn’t seeing what she thought she was.

“That…” Her voice nearly disappeared. “That’s impossible.”

She took a half step back, her breathing turning uneven. Her eyes remained locked on the mark, as though it were something that should not exist.

It couldn’t be.

How could a stranger bear a tattoo so strikingly similar to the one her uncle had… Uncle Yiyang… and her father, as the head of the family?

Cale paid no mind to her shock.

“Now,” he said calmly, “I’ll ask you one more time.”

His gaze hardened, leaving no room for refusal.

“Show me yours.”
