The lights of Berlin began to glow as their car moved slowly through streets lined with historic buildings. From the window, Lydia watched rows of classical architecture standing side by side with modern structures, the contrast somehow blending into a quiet harmony.

“Berlin is unique,” Andrew’s voice came from the front seat-calm, practiced. “The city was divided for decades. East and West. Even now, you can still feel the traces of it-not just in the buildings, but in the way people live.”

“Like a city with two personalities?” Lydia asked, her gaze still fixed outside.

“Exactly, Mrs. Lydia,” Andrew replied with a faint smile. “On one side, you’ll find heavy history-war, walls, conflict. But on the other hand, Berlin is incredibly alive. Art, music, freedom… they all thrive here.”

“Interesting,” Lydia murmured.

Beside her, Cale remained mostly quiet. Yet his hand never truly left her-sometimes holding hers, sometimes just brushing lightly against her skin, enough to make sure she was still there, still close.

“So tonight, we’re going to a historic restaurant too?” Lydia asked after a moment.

“Not historic,” Andrew corrected lightly. “But well-known. La Venue is famous for its modern fine dining with a touch of classic European influence. A place that’s very suitable for-” he glanced at them through the rearview mirror, a knowing smile forming, “-couples. Especially newlyweds like the two of you.”

Lydia glanced at Cale, the corner of her lips lifting. “That sounds promising.”

“It should be,” Cale replied casually.

The car came to a stop not long after. Andrew stepped out first, opening the door for them. The restaurant stood elegantly before them, bathed in warm lighting. Large glass windows revealed a luxurious interior-lively, yet undeniably exclusive.

The moment they stepped inside, the atmosphere shifted-soft music, the tempting aroma of food, and the low murmur of

refined conversation.

“This way, please,” Andrew said, guiding them to a table that had already been prepared.

Lydia sat down, her eyes immediately lighting up as she took in the surroundings. “I like this place.”

“Good,” Cale replied shortly, though there was something in his tone that suggested he had chosen to make her comfortable- intentionally.

Andrew handed them the menu, then inclined his head slightly. “I’ll be waiting outside. If you need anything, please let me know.”

“Thank you, Andrew,” Lydia said sincerely.

Once he left, Lydia opened the menu with clear enthusiasm. “I want to try their dessert later. I heard it’s famous.”

“We haven’t even ordered the main course yet,” Cale pointed out.

“That’s not important.”

Cale raised an eyebrow. “Of course it is.”

“Not when it comes to dessert.”

A quiet chuckle slipped from him-rare, and this time completely unrestrained. “You’re strange.”

“If I’m strange, then why did you marry me?” Lydia asked flatly, her eyes still fixed on the menu as if it were just another casual question-one she asked him often.

“Precisely because you’re strange,” Cale replied easily. “If you were ordinary, you probably wouldn’t interest me.”

That was Cale-answering anything Lydia threw at him as if it required no thought at all.

Cale didn’t answer right away. Instead, his hand moved, taking hers across the table, his thumb brushing over her skin absentmindedly. “That’s good,” he said at last. “I’m glad you’re enjoying this.”

The food arrived one dish at a time. Their conversation flowed easily-light, occasionally punctuated by Lydia’s laughter and Cale’s brief remarks that somehow always managed to draw a reaction from her.

But in the middle of it-Lydia went still. Her gaze fixed on something across the room.

“Cale.”

“Hm?”

“…Nothing.” She quickly shifted the conversation, unwilling to let the unease growing inside her take shape.
