Chapter 772
“The spinal issue needs to be assessed in person before we know anything for sure.”
“Did you want me to ask my grandmother to come take a look?”
When Karla mentioned Mary, Claire immediately understood that she wasn’t asking her to perform the surgery, but rather seeking out Mary’s extensive expertise.
“Once she’s moved to a regular ward, I can ask Mary to come check on her.”
Claire couldn’t guarantee that Mary would accept a case involving severe spinal trauma.
Surgeries like this were incredibly difficult to correct if she wasn’t the one who performed the initial operation. It might actually be better for Claire to manage her recovery using traditional holistic treatments.
“You don’t have to ask her directly. Just introduce me to her, and I’ll handle the negotiation.”
Karla didn’t want Claire to get dragged into the messy details.
This was a work-related issue, and she wanted to avoid cashing in on Claire’s personal favors if possible.
Truthfully, just getting the introduction was a massive favor.
But she couldn’t think of any other viable options at the moment.
She would use the connections she had to, and avoid the ones she didn’t.
“Alright,” Claire simply nodded, perfectly willing to follow Karla’s lead.
Nearby, Beatrice kept eyeing Claire from head to toe.
She hadn’t noticed the girl before, but hearing her call Karla her aunt made the gears in Beatrice’s head start turning.
Her son was still young, but he would need a wife eventually, and she certainly didn’t want him marrying some small-town country bumpkin.
Pampered city girls like Claire might lack the grit of rural women, but they had their own undeniable advantages.
Like money!
Karla was loaded, practically using her own daughter as a cash cow.
And seeing how this girl hadn’t batted an eye at the prospect of buying food from a luxury international hotel, it was obvious she came from a wealthy background.
If her son married her, wouldn’t he be set for life without ever having to lift a finger?
Plus, having such a gorgeous young thing waiting on him hand and foot sounded like a dream.
So, when her husband and son returned with her food, Beatrice ordered them to keep a hawk’s Ort
the director while she took her plate and sauntered over to Claire.
“Sweetheart, how old are you this year?”
Claire glanced up at Beatrice’s seemingly honest face. If you ignored the calculating
glint in her eyes, she really did look like a simple, rustic woman.
“Can I help you?” Claire asked, dodging the question entirely.
Beatrice frowned inwardly.
This girl was a bit too sharp.
Why couldn’t she just answer the question instead of firing one back?
But Beatrice kept her smile plastered on. “I just noticed you look about the same age as my son, so I figured I’d ask.”
“You’re still in school, right?”
“I am,” Claire replied calmly, waiting to see what the woman was plotting.
Then came the absolute nonsense “My son is in school too. But
l.ne
honestly, I always say it’s fine for boys to
the books, but what’s the
point of a girl studying so much?”
“My oldest went off to study, and not only did her head get filled with wild ideas, but
she even went and changed her own name.”
“Sure, she makes money now, but it’s nothing compared to staying home and serving her husband.”
“If you ask me, women should just leave the careers to the men.”
“My daughter is pretty, isn’t she?”
“My son shares the same mother, so he’s incredibly handsome too. I told her she should bring Hunter into the entertainment industry. If he started acting he’d definitely rake in more cash than she does.”
“But the stubborn brat absolutely refused to help her brother. And look at her now-
half dead, and Hunter still hasn’t gotten his big break.”
Claire stared at her, completely speechless. *Are you even listening to the garbage coming out of your mouth?*
“But, I figure if your aunt is willing to take Hunter under her wing, he’ll definitely become a huge star.”
