Chapter 718
Lance felt a massive headache coming on.
The company was in crisis, his mother had been arrested, was The James Family truly on the brink of absolute ruin?
“Where’s Mary?”
Lance knew that Mary had an extensive network of contacts; if she made a few inquiries, she could probably find out the details.
Then they could prepare themselves early.
“She went out. I think a doctor wanted to consult her about something.”
Lately, the hospital had been trying to rehire Mary, not to put her back on the front lines, but to train the younger doctors.
Mary had refused.
She was getting older and lacked the energy.
She simply couldn’t agree to the hospital’s request.
She still had no idea about Octavia’s arrest.
When she returned to the room, Lance and Cindy finally broke the news to her.
“How could this happen?” Mary’s brow furrowed tightly.
She had always found her daughter-in-law a bit unlikable, but she never imagined she’d break the law.
Hiring a hitman?
It sounded absurd, but somehow, when it came to Octavia, it wasn’t all that hard to believe.
“I’ll have someone look into it, but since the police are still investigating, we’ll just have to wait for more news.”
“Lance, you need to focus on recovering right now. Everything else can wait until you’re healed.”
“Cindy, I might have to ask you to take extra care of Lance for the time being.”
“If it’s too much for you, I can hire a caregiver. How does that sound?”
Mary had suggested hiring a caregiver before, but Octavia hadn’t trusted strangers and insisted on having the family maid deliver meals instead.
Cindy just bought breakfast in the mornings.
But now that Octavia was gone, if Lance needed to use the restroom at night, it would be pretty awkward for his sister to help him.
Cindy also thought hiring a caregiver was a good idea; she couldn’t take care of him around the clock forever.
She was willing to help, but there were limits.
“Okay. Thank you, Mary.”
Mary nodded, thinking the girl was much more reasonable than Octavia.
She caught on quickly.
Since Mary used to work at the hospital, she quickly arranged for a caregiver.
The caregiver was a strong, hardworking man in his fifties.
Once he arrived, it saved Cindy a lot of trouble.
On Latham’s end, after finding out Octavia had been arrested, he truly had no idea what to do.
He did quickly manage to ask around and piece together the full story.

He harbored a deep-seated hatred for Fallon for ruining his company, and he had an
equal distaste for Octavia.
After all, Octavia was the one who had cheated on him.
He called his son back and explained the whole situation

“So can she get out?” Lance clearly wanted to pull some strings to free his mother.
She was his biological mother, after all.
The James Group was already in shambles; if news broke that Octavia had been arrested, the company would collapse even faster.
Latham showed up at the hospital that evening, making it clear that his hands were tied.
“In the past, one phone call from me was enough to get things done.”
“Now, no one even picks up the phone.”
The company was already giving, him a massive headache, and with Claire refusing to help, Latham didn’t even know who to turn to if he wanted to gut his losses and sell out

“Frederic and I have already discussed it. We plan to abandon the Westside project.”
“It’s just that finding someone to take it over right now is incredibly difficult.” “Lance, just focus on recovering. You don’t need to worry about anything else.”
