Chapter 771
The director thought to himself, *They really are clinging to me like leeches.*
*It isn’t like the kid is my son. He’s a grown man-can’t he buy his own food?*
“Liam, take them to the cafeteria to eat.”
Hesitating for a moment, the director decided to avoid any more trouble and gave the order to his assistant.
Liam was obedient, of course, but the Darwin family wasn’t quite as compliant.
“No way! I’m not eating at some hospital cafeteria. The food there is garbage! I want to go eat at that luxury international hotel!”
Hunter Darwin shouted at the top of his lungs.
The director immediately felt a massive headache coming on.
He made a mental note to run a full background check on the families of anyone he worked with in the future.
Dealing with unreasonable relatives like Sienna Darwin’s family was an absolute nightmare whenever an emergency hit.
“Watch your attitude!” the director snapped, slapping his forehead. “If you don’t want to eat, then starve! You’ve been spoiled rotten!”
At the director’s roar, Hunter’s voice instantly dropped.
Seeing that no one was going to entertain his demands, Hunter felt a surge of resentment.
Why should he have to starve?
What was this director plotting?
Was he trying to starve the only son of the Darwin family to death so he could swallow up his sister’s inheritance?
Absolutely not!
He had to eat, and he was going to stuff himself full!
He looked over at his mother, and Beatrice quickly chimed in, “Eat, stop being so picky. Your sister is still in the hospital.”
“Once… once she’s discharged, we can eat whatever we want.”
Originally, Beatrice had wanted to say, *Once she’s dead, we’ll get her money and eat whatever we want.*
But with so many people around, she didn’t dare say it out loud, forcing herself to show a shred of restraint.
Beatrice shot her son a knowing look as she spoke.
It seemed Hunter wasn’t entirely oblivious to his surroundings.
At least in that moment, he miraculously understood his mother’s silent cue.
He stopped fussing and quieted down.
The cafeteria it was, then.
Terrified that the director might pull a disappearing act, Beatrice stayed behind to keep an eye on him while her husband and son went to get food.
The director hadn’t expected this rural woman to be so shrewd. He had genuinely planned to slip away while they were eating.
He didn’t realize she had seen right through him, willingly skipping a meal just to keep him under surveillance.
Karla and her assistant quickly finished their food.
“You don’t need to bring food over tomorrow. I’ll just order delivery or hit the cafeteria.”
“Sienna might be moved to a regular ward tonight That Dr Duncan you know mentioned that her body requires further treatment, especially regarding her spine…”
Karla hadn’t originally wanted to burden Claire with this.
Claire was still so young; she should be out enjoying her life, not worrying about hospital matters.
But Dr. Duncan had privately
mentioned that Claire’s other grandmo
dmother, Mary, was a renowned surgical expert. Having Mary Consult on Sienna’s case would be incredibly beneficial for her recovery
However, Mary was no longer accepting hospital appointments, making it impossible
to hire her through official channels.
To complicate matters, Mary’s own grandson was currently hospitalized in critical condition following a car accident, making it an awkward time to ask for favors.
If Karla wanted Mary’s help, her only route was through Claire.
Furthermore, Dr. Duncan had spent an inordinate amount of time singing Claire’s praises.
While Karla knew Claire had studied under a famous doctor, she hadn’t realized just how exceptional her skills were.
In the eyes of her elders, Claire was still just a child.
Who would have thought she was already capable of assisting in the operating
room, even stepping in to complete the surgery when Mary’s stamina failed?
If Dr. Duncan hadn’t told her, Karla never would have connected that highly skilled surgeon with her own young niece.
