Chapter 773
“Sweetheart, what do you think of our Hunter?”
Beatrice reached out to grab Claire’s hand, but Claire swiftly dodged her.
Dane stepped seamlessly in front of Claire. “What do you think you’re doing?”
“What’s your problem, young man? Why are you blocking me? I was just trying to have a chat with the girl. It’s not like I’m going to hit her!”
Beatrice scowled at Dane’s protective stance.
She had already decided to set Claire up with her son; she absolutely wasn’t going to tolerate another man hovering around.
“If I didn’t step in, you would have put your hands on her,” Dane replied with a cold smirk. “She has nothing to do with you. Keep your hands to yourself.”
Beatrice bristled indignantly. “So what if I grabbed her? I only reached out because I like her! And what exactly is your relationship with her that gives you the right to act like her bodyguard?”
Dane saw right through Beatrice’s malicious intentions and didn’t mince words. “Unfortunately for you, I’m her fiancé.”
*How does someone so young already have a fiancé?*
*Did my golden goose just fly away?*
Beatrice refused to accept it. “Even if you are her fiancé, you don’t get to control her like that.”
“The poor girl hasn’t even said a word yet.”
Claire poked her head out from behind Dane. “Ma’am, whatever my fiancé says, goes.”
“If you have something to say, just say it from over there. I don’t like being touched by strangers.”
*What do you mean, ‘strangers’? I’m your future mother-in-law!*
Beatrice screamed internally.
“I just think you’re a lovely girl, and you’re around the same age as my son. Why don’t you two exchange numbers and get to know each other?”
Claire stared at the woman in sheer disbelief. “Do you have any idea what you’re saying right now?”
The bystanders in the hallway were equally stunned.
The girl literally had a fiancé standing right in front of her, and this woman had the audacity to suggest she was a match for her delinquent son?
With her son looking like a cheap street punk, how on earth could he ever be worthy of Karla’s niece?
Was she out of her mind?
But Beatrice felt completely justified,
abso an expression of such
e righteousness that knee
wanted to throw her out a window
“I’m just pointing it out because you’re young. Sure, this guy is fiancé, but this is obviously an
Det
arranged marriage set up by your
parents, right?”
“He’s so much older than you. Don’t let yourself be fooled. If you date someone your
own age, you’ll see how wonderful my son is.”
“He’s so obedient and sensible. He’s always such a good boy at home.”
Claire couldn’t stomach another word of this.
And Dane was even more disgusted.
He could accept that Claire might develop crushes on outstanding peers while attending university.
But this was entirely different.
A cheap, uneducated punk? How could he ever be considered a match for Claire?
Yet this mother genuinely believed her son was God’s gift to women, worthy of a literal princess.
He was just about to rip into her when Karla beat him to the punch.
“Are you out of your mind? Your son is obedient and sensible? Who gave you that kind of delusion?”
“My niece isn’t just stunningly beautiful; she attends the top university in the country. You think your son is worthy of her?”
“He’s nothing but a delusional piece of garbage aiming for the stars!”
“Do you honestly have zero self-awareness?”
Karla had been biting her tongue around the Darwin family for far too long.
Beatrice targeting her niece was the absolute final straw.
Not to mention, Dane was standing right there! What was this woman trying to pull right in front of the girl’s fiancé?
Beatrice’s face flushed a mottled mix of red and green under Karla’s blistering attack.
“If you don’t agree, then just say so! What kind of way is that to speak?”
“My daughter makes fortunes, and
it’s all going to belong to my son eventually. He could easily snag a wealthy heiress if he wanted to! Showing terest in your niece is a compliment!”
“Who cares about the ‘top university’? What use is it for a woman to read so many books?”
