Chapter 783
Hearing this, Karla realized her niece was even busier than she was. She was already deeply involved in medical research projects at such a young age.
“I won’t hold you up, then. Don’t worry about the Darwins. I’ve already pulled some strings; they aren’t getting in.”
They certainly wouldn’t get in easily, unless they tried something completely unhinged.
But for rural folks navigating a massive city hospital, finding one specific person was like finding a needle in a haystack.
They were probably still running around the lobby like headless chickens.
Claire wasn’t worried. She trusted Karla to handle it.
She was just dropping by to deliver the news.
“Sienna is awake. Do you want to see her?”
Karla remembered Dr. Duncan praising Claire’s incredible medical skills, seamlessly blending Eastern and Western techniques.
“I know you’re not a fan girl, but could you take a look at her spine and see if there’s any chance of a full recovery?”
“I haven’t talked to Mary yet. After all, Sienna just woke up and hasn’t even had her comprehensive checkups.”
“If I go in now, I’ll just disturb her rest. I think it’s better to wait until the doctors run their tests before I evaluate her.” Claire didn’t see the need to rush.
Karla was just asking anyway. If Claire didn’t want to go, that was perfectly fine.
After Claire left, Karla returned to the room and told Sienna that her parents had arrived at the hospital.
Sienna glanced at her phone. “I know. They called. I didn’t answer.”
“Hunter even sent me voice messages.”
They were sent from Hunter’s account, but it was mostly their mother talking.
At first, she played the loving, heartbroken mother, crying about how they knew they were wrong, how they never wanted her to die, but just couldn’t bear to see her suffer.
But when Sienna didn’t respond, Beatrice unleashed a long string of vitriolic voice notes, screaming curses at her.
Hearing the viciousness in those later messages actually made Sienna chuckle bitterly.
She knew her parents didn’t have an ounce of genuine goodwill in them.
They couldn’t even keep up the loving act for ten minutes.
“You didn’t reply, did you?” Karla was still slightly worried Sienna might have a soft spot for them.
Sienna wasn’t about to let Karla down.
“I didn’t. Don’t worry, Karla. I’m done being a pushover.”
Sienna truly felt nothing for them anymore.
Consequently, the Darwin trio completely failed to locate her room.
They resorted to crying to the media again.
They claimed they just wanted to clear up the misunderstanding, but their daughter stubbornly refused to see them.
They missed her so much, couldn’t see her, and even suggested Karla was controlling their precious daughter and holding her hostage.
They insisted they just wanted one look at her before heading back to the countryside.
They even whined that the city was too expensive and they couldn’t afford to stay any longer.
It was a blatant attempt to garner sympathy.
But the vast majority of the public was completely out of sympathy for the three of them.
—If I were Sienna, and I woke up to find out my parents wanted to pull the plug, I’d disown them on the spot.
-Disowning them isn’t enough. She
needs to write a will immediately e her money doesn’t end up in?
leech of a brother’s hands
-Poor Sienna. Waking up from a coma just to deal with this nightmare.
-Well, let’s not be too harsh. Maybe her parents really do love her. Why else would they be crying so pitifully?
-Parents are never entirely wrong.
They didn’t cause her any physical
harm, did they? Rural parents
struggle to raise kids. What’s wrong with asking a successful daughter to help out her brother?
—Look at this psycho in the comments! If you love helping out so much, why don’t
you buy Hunter Darwin a house and a car?
The person defending the Darwins was, at his core, a beneficiary of the exact same toxic gender bias.
He had two sisters who were stellar students when they were young. But of the three siblings, only he was allowed to go to college. Both his sisters were forced to drop out and start working.
