Chapter 746 Be honest with me, Sera. Are you even human?
“How did you meet him?” Voren asked from the end of the line, his voice tight and controlled, the calm before a storm.
Ravyn narrated everything, his words tumbling out in a rush. “I wanted to prove to Battal that I was on his side, so he invited me to some Dons business alliance meeting in Italy. It was just a two-day event, so I went. I met that man, Santiago, and his scent tells me he is a Lycan too.”
At first they could not tell because they were unaware of the existence of such creatures but ever since knowing them, it has been easy to identify them in the human world. Ravyn continued to narrate his experience.
“We got talking, and someone mentioned Sera. I had no idea that her name had traveled so far. One of the dons mocked Santiago for getting his ass kicked by Sera, and he told them he only allowed it because she was his future donna.”
Ravyn paused, the weight of his next words heavy on his tongue. “I thought it was a different Sera and casually told them I was intrigued to see this woman. He showed me a picture of her on his phone. They were having dinner together.”
Voren was stunned, his blood turning to ice in his veins. He never imagined that Santiago would keep Seraphine’s pictures after all that happened that day. The audacity, the obsession, the sheer arrogance of the man was staggering.
“He is wanted by the FBI. If you can send me his location, I will tip them off.”
Ravyn laughed, though there was no humor in it. “Sure, I will send it. But Sera, how did she get involved with such a person? Santiago is ruthless and is involved in some shady deals. Most of the dons are even afraid of him. I am wondering if I should ask about him from Battal. Do you advise it?”
Voren took his time to answer each of Ravyn’s queries, his mind working through the implications, the dangers, the possibilities. “About Battal, if you can find a reasonable way to ask, I would like that. I am interested in knowing how these Lycans live so carefree in the human world.”
“But about my wife, do not be quick to judge her. Her involvement with Santiago was all because of her desperation to look for her daughter when I had no idea she was Esperanza. Santiago showed interest in her from the moment he set eyes on her, but Sera only played along when she found out about his shady deals.”
“She feared her daughter might be among the children he trafficked, so she requested my help to bring down Santiago. It is such a shame he escaped from prison, but the next time, I will not make it so easy for him. I will kill him before he gets the chance.”
Ravyn felt guilty after hearing Voren’s explanation, the weight of his assumptions pressing down on him hard. Now, he even convinced himself that it was the right thing to not fight for custody of Esperanza.
Both Seraphine and Voren had gone through so much to protect the girl, and as her biological father, he had done nothing. He had been absent, useless, a shadow in her life who had once wanted her dead.
“Alright, I am returning to the pack tonight and will tell Battal about it. I just sent you Santiago’s location.”
“Santiago again.” Seraphine asked as soon as Voren lowered the phone, her voice laced with old fears and new anger.
He nodded, his jaw tight. “Unfortunately.” He forwarded the location to Stanley with a message, ’you might need an Interpol for this, but I am told the event ends today. You will miss him if you don’t move now.’
The response was prompt. ’Thanks for the lead. We shall contact other agencies in Italy.’
Leon arrived six minutes before the thirty-minute mark, looking exhausted but excited, his eyes bright with anticipation. He naturally embraced Seraphine, pulling her into a hug that lingered a moment too long. “Sera, I missed you so much. And did you have to bring this cold man?”
Voren gave him a look when he pulled away, a look that could freeze fire. “I should just change my mind and take her home.”
“Come on, cold man, can you not take a joke? And thanks for the yacht. My family is enjoying it, and I am yet to free some time to do the same.”
Voren was least interested in the yacht, his attention turning to his phone, his fingers scrolling through something, his expression unreadable. “You will not have her forever.”
He sat on Leon’s chair and leaned on the backrest like he owned the office, his presence filling the room, dominating it. Leon could only shake his head as he led Seraphine away. “Sera, let us go check on the patients.”
He took Seraphine to another room and asked her, his voice low and curious, “Does he always follow you everywhere like that?”
“It makes me feel protected.” Seraphine answered, and whatever Leon wanted to say next died on his lips.
“If I knew you liked the possessive ones, I would have shown that side of me. But I guess it is too late now.”
“Leon.” Seraphine mentioned in a warning tone, and Leon laughed, the sound light and familiar.
“Alright, alright. They are all here. And why did you send me so much money? I said I was going to take care of it.”
Seraphine had used the MindNest account to transfer the money when she went there a few days ago but texted Leon not to call her. “That should tell you that I only want quality, and why should I let you pay for a surprise for my husband?”
Leon could not help feeling a little jealous. He clapped his hands, and luxury items were wheeled in, displayed on velvet trays like precious artifacts. “I had each of the wristwatches customized. These shoes are made from premium Italian leather. They are all in the right sizes.”
Seraphine checked every item carefully, her fingers trailing over the luxury wristwatches, waist belts, perfumes, shoes, cufflinks, and other accessories. She did not want to buy clothes from anyone who was not Liah, so these were all she could purchase for now.
“Thank you.” She said honestly before dialing Corvine’s number. “I am sending some items with the chopper. You should receive them and have them delivered to my suite.”
“Yes, ma’am.” Corvine responded teasingly, and Seraphine smiled as they made the arrangements to send the things ahead.
After that, she went to see the conjoined twins, and her heart clenched with mixed feelings. They were so small, so fragile, their tiny bodies joined in a way that should never have happened. After reviewing the file, she asked Leon, “Can we get a heart donor who matches?”
Leon’s mind began to piece together what Seraphine was driving at, his eyes widening. “I can arrange that, but how will it be possible? Most of their tissues are joined together.”
Seraphine smiled, a quiet confidence radiating from her. “Trust me.”
The sight of the twins gave her hope, and she was determined to make them smile forever. “I am going to stay by your side all through. I have to learn how you do all these.”
“Not a problem.” Seraphine assured him, adding, “Arrange my team of surgeons. We start at dawn.”
She left and returned with Voren three hours before the surgical time. The team of doctors were all waiting, most of them she already knew, and they were all excited to see her.
Leon had moved mountains to get the heart for transplant too, but the surgery did not take long as expected. The more Leon watched Seraphine’s fingers and confidence during the surgery, the more conflicted and suspicious he got.
When it was over and the twins were finally separated, all the doctors from various specialties were stunned, their mouths hanging open, their eyes wide with disbelief. They never expected both twins pulse to be normal.
“Doctor Sera is not an ordinary doctor.” One of them said, and Leon pushed Seraphine to the side and asked her, his voice low and intense, “Be honest with me, Sera. Are you even human?”
