Earlier that day, long before the storm had forced everyone to take shelter inside the gym, Corvine and Kael quietly watched as Seraphine and Athaliah talked together.

Neither one of them had expected the Silver Moon princess to come across as so genuinely friendly and approachable with Seraphine right from the start.

Athaliah had closed the distance between them with this bright, open smile lighting up her face, chatting away so naturally and comfortably that anyone watching from a distance would have easily assumed the two women had known each other for years and were catching up like old friends.

“I’ve been trying to reach you for a while now,” Athaliah said, and a quick hint of real disappointment flickered across her expression. “I just couldn’t get through no matter what I tried.”

“That robotic response kept tell me your phone was switched off or out of coverage area but I ended up hearing quite a lot about everything that happened with you.”

Seraphine offered her a warm, apologetic smile in return. “Yeah, I changed my number after all that mess.”

Athaliah nodded right away as if the explanation made total and perfect sense to her. “I pretty much figured that was the case.”

She folded her arms in a loose, casual way and continued, her voice full of feeling. “You wanted to get away from that lousy ex-husband of yours, and honestly? You made the absolute right choice by walking away.”

“A whole lot of these Lunas out there are way too scared and stuck to ever leave bad marriages behind. They’d rather just keep suffering through everything in total silence instead of finding the courage to start their lives over fresh and better. But you weren’t like that at all, you actually did something about it.”

A big, proud smile spread across her face, making her look even more radiant and confident.

Corvine nearly choked on his own breath when he heard her speak so openly, his eyes widening in complete surprise as he stared straight at Athaliah.

She really did not care one bit about who might overhear her strong opinions on the matter.

Seraphine noticed the shocked look on his face and almost laughed, but then the memory of the whole arranged marriage situation had come back to her. She gently changed the subject to something lighter and more personal.

“So, tell me,” Seraphine said with a genuinely warm smile, “how have you been doing these days? It’s honestly been so many years since we last saw each other back at the academy.”

Athaliah relaxed almost instantly, her eyes filling up with a spark of real excitement that was impossible to miss. “I’ve been living in France for a while now, and I actually started my own fashion brand from the ground up. I’ve been really hoping that someday soon we could find a way to work together on something special.”

She leaned forward a little, clearly thrilled at the idea. “I want to take my clothing line to a whole new level that nobody else has reached yet. I need designs that feel completely unique and different from everything out there.”

“I’m planning to open up branches in every major packs across the region, and my biggest dream is for people to be able to recognize my creations instantly the second they lay eyes on them, knowing right away that it’s my signature style.”

Seraphine raised an eyebrow, looking truly interested and a bit impressed by the scope of it all. “That sounds like a pretty ambitious goal you’ve set for yourself.”

“It really is,” Athaliah replied with a soft laugh, but then her eyes suddenly lost focus for a moment and her whole body went completely still.

Corvine and Kael exchanged puzzled glances with each other, wondering what was going on. When Athaliah finally blinked and came back to the conversation, she looked slightly embarrassed about the interruption.

“I’m really sorry about that. My father is mind-linking me right now, so I have to go take care of it. It’s about the marriage arrangement with Alpha Voren. My father wants me to meet him and talk things through.”

She quickly brushed an invisible wrinkle from her outfit, gave them an awkward little smile, and excused herself before hurrying off without waiting around for any more questions.

Seraphine watched her leave with a thoughtful expression, then turned back toward Corvine. “What do you think of her overall?”

“I like her a lot,” Corvine answered without even a second of hesitation, but then he let out a deep, worried sigh.

“I just really wish she wasn’t so set on getting involved with Voren. You never know how these things might turn out. What if Voren ends up rejecting her so ruthlessly, and she turns into another enemy because of it? That would be a nightmare we don’t need right now.”

Kael immediately shook his head, dismissing the idea. “I really doubt that would happen. After seeing how she handled that whole situation with Daisy earlier, she doesn’t strike me as the type of person who would hold a grudge or throw herself at a man who doesn’t have interest in her.”

His face grew more serious as he glanced over toward the courtyard area. “Speaking of strange and unexplained things that are still hanging over us… you two still haven’t filled me in on what exactly happened with my Alpha’s father.”

Seraphine and Corvine instinctively followed where his eyes were looking, and sure enough, Alpha Vladimir was walking straight toward them with a quicker pace than usual.

The closer he got, the more obvious the sense of urgency and concern became on his face.

Seraphine had been wanting to ask him about Olivia this whole time, but before she could even get the words out, Vladimir spoke up first.

“A storm is coming in fast,” he said, his deep voice carrying such natural authority that all three of them immediately turned to look at the darkening sky overhead. “You all need to get to shelter inside right away before it gets any worse out here.”

The he looked at Seraphine worriedly. “Especially you, Sera…”

“Me?” Seraphine asked, confused. There was something he was not telling her.
