Chapter 528 Fenrir blood carries poison in its claws

The Fenrir wolf wasn’t something most pack members ever expected to run into in real life. To a lot of them it was nothing more than an old legend passed down through dusty history books and half-forgotten campfire stories.

Very few Alphas, Betas, or warriors had ever bothered studying its abilities in any real detail, which meant almost no one present truly understood what they were dealing with.

Even those who had read about Fenrir wolves years ago would need time to dig through old texts just to remember their strengths, and more importantly, their weaknesses. Unfortunately, time was the one thing they didn’t have right now.

The instant Corvine charged forward, Daeva noticed him. Bloodfang and Axel were stronger than she’d anticipated, keeping her locked down long enough for someone else to make a move.

Her crimson eyes immediately locked onto Corvine, and then she spotted the syringe clenched tightly in his hand. Pure panic flashed across her face.

’They figured out my weakness.’ Daeva’s voice echoed through Daisy’s mind with a sharp edge of fear. Daisy froze as the words sank in. Because she’d spent years suppressing her wolf just to avoid exposing herself, there was still so much she didn’t know about her own nature.

’Besides the white wolf, do we have another weakness?’

She could barely hide the shock in her voice. Even now, all she cared about was finding another way to kill Seraphine. Daeva growled in frustration.

’Her blood.’

The answer stunned Daisy into complete silence as Daeva continued. ’I warned you to stop taking it.’

Bitterness filled the Fenrir’s voice as the truth spilled out. ’But you were obsessed with draining her.’

Understanding slowly dawned on Daisy as the pieces finally clicked into place. ’Her blood kept me calm all those years,’ Daeva said, her breathing growing heavier as Bloodfang continued forcing her backward through the snow.

’The moment she stopped giving it to us, I began growing stronger.’

Daisy’s teeth ground together so hard they nearly cracked under the pressure. Everything she’d believed was suddenly turned upside down. She had spent years thinking she was hurting Seraphine by stealing her blood.

Instead, she’d been feeding the very thing she feared the most. No wonder. For generations everyone spoke of Fenrir wolves as creatures of pure evil, yet until today Daisy had never fully understood why. Now she finally did. The true monster hadn’t only been the Fenrir. It had been her own choices.

Seraphine’s blood weakened her evil side, as well as her wolf, though it made her physically strong. Frustration exploded inside her with nowhere to go. ’Even the assassin I sent after her failed!’

Her thoughts spiraled out of control as the weight of her mistakes piled higher. ’Why didn’t you explain it like this before?’

Daeva snarled in response. ’I already told you to stop taking her blood.’

There was no hiding the irritation in her voice. ’You refused to listen.’

Her eyes snapped toward Corvine with growing dread. For as long as the man does not shift, he would be no match for her in he wolf form and the assignment he carried would indeed make it impossible for him to do so.

’And now he’s carrying exactly what can stop me.’

Before Daisy could think of another solution, it was already too late. Corvine closed the final stretch between them with grim determination.

Ignoring the danger completely, he lunged straight through the opening Bloodfang, and Axel had created. The needle pierced Daeva’s thick, shadow-black fur, and an instant later the syringe emptied. Every drop of Seraphine’s blood disappeared into the Fenrir’s body.

Daeva immediately understood what was happening. Her strength began fading fast. With a final burst of fury, she lashed out, her razor-sharp claws tearing deep across Corvine’s chest.

The force of the strike lifted him completely off the ground before hurling him through the snowy air. His body crashed hard into one of the snow-covered vehicles.

Only then did the last of Daeva’s strength disappear. The enormous shadow black wolf collapsed in a heap. Her body trembled violently before shrinking back into human form.

Moments later Daisy lay naked in the snow, coughing uncontrollably as every ounce of power drained from her body.

“Corvine!”

Seraphine’s scream tore through the night with raw panic. At the same moment Bloodfang felt the overwhelming pressure surrounding the Fenrir disappear completely. ’She’s weakening.’

Voren felt it too. ’What happened?’

Without wasting another second he took control, shifting into human form. Behind him Ravyn did the same. Before Seraphine could run toward Corvine, Damon and Prince Jasper gently held her back.

“You can’t go!” Damon pleaded with her, his voice tight with worry.

Athaliah and Alpha Killian rushed ahead instead, but neither of them reached Corvine first. Voren was already there.

Ignoring the freezing snow beneath his bare feet, he scooped Corvine onto his shoulder with surprising care. Blood soaked Corvine’s chest, staining Voren’s shoulder. Without another word Voren carried him back inside the hall.

The warriors immediately surrounded him with a fresh set of clothes. Voren slipped them on as quickly as he could before kneeling beside Corvine. Athaliah and Seraphine were already on their knees before him.

“Corvine…” Seraphine’s trembling voice barely rose above a whisper. “Can you hear me?”

There was no answer, not even the slightest movement. The color had already begun fading from Corvine’s face, and worry tightened around everyone’s chest like a vice. Jasmine hurried over, panic written all over her face. “What happened?”

Before she could kneel, Athaliah raised a hand to stop her. “I’ve got him.”

Her voice shook despite her attempt to stay composed. She refused to let anyone crowd the wounded man any further.

“Corvine…” Tears gathered in her eyes as she spoke. “You have to wake up.”

Nicole immediately joined Seraphine, both women working together to slow the bleeding. Fresh towels were pressed against the deep wounds while Damon hurried to gather more medical supplies.

Then Nicole suddenly froze as a frightening thought crossed her mind. She slowly lifted her eyes toward the others. “What if he’s been poisoned?”

The room fell silent as everyone stared at her. Nicole swallowed hard before continuing. “From everything we’ve read…”

Her gaze drifted toward Daisy lying shakily outside in the snow. “Fenrir blood carries poison in its claws when it attacks.”

Those words hit Seraphine like ice water. Inside her mind Marsha spoke immediately. ’Let me handle this.’

Seraphine’s fingers tightened around the bloodstained cloth pressed against Corvine’s wound. She knew Marsha could save him. She had no doubt about that.

But allowing Marsha to take control now would expose the secret she’d fought so hard to protect. Everyone would discover that she was a white wolf.
