Chapter 754 You should not kill my son
Kael sent a message to Killian the moment he ended the call with Voren through one of the warriors. “I shall meet you at training tomorrow.”
Killian was excited upon hearing the news, his eyes lighting up with malicious glee that made his pulse race and his chest tighten with eager anticipation.
He invited everyone including his father, desperate to put on a show, desperate to eliminate the beta who had dared to challenge him and finally claim the victory that would restore his pride.
Kael had not slept at all. During his tour around the pack, he discovered strangers lurking around, shadows in the corners, whispers in the dark, but did not bring up the matter.
It was enough that Killian got defensive at all times. He went to the room assigned to him at the pack house and began to work on the report before dawn when he joined the training, determination burning steady and fierce in his chest.
Just from the beginning of the fight, Killian realized that Kael’s moves were similar to those of Corvine, meaning Voren had trained them well. His reason for bringing up this plan was to have a legal reason to eliminate Kael, but sadly, he was shamed in front of his pack and its members.
Every punch, every dodge, every counter was a humiliation, a public stripping of his pride that left him burning with fury and deep, crushing humiliation that made his blood boil.
His father, Atticus, was so ashamed, pleading with Kael, his voice cracking with desperation that made every word heavy and broken. “Unless you are ready to take up the position of Alpha, you should not kill my son.”
Kael was not stupid. Taking up the leadership of this pack would be a free ticket to their success, so no, no one was going to clean up their messes. He would not be their savior, and the thought of it only strengthened his resolve until it felt like iron in his bones.
“Well, I never intended to kill him. How else will he coronate Daisy when the two of them get bonded?” Kael mocked the half conscious Killian, his voice dripping with contempt that cut deeper than any blow and left the entire training ground silent with shock.
His pack warriors struggled to swallow their laughter, their shoulders shaking with suppressed mirth and quiet satisfaction that bordered on joy.
A pack would cry when a good leader falls, but when a bad one does, they jubilate.
Kael had gathered enough evidence against the Shadow Pack and knew that Voren would make a personal appearance after reading the report, a cold certainty settling hard and heavy in his gut.
However, he called to give a verbal one before leaving, his voice steady and clinical even as pride hummed beneath the surface. “The Shadow Pack pays its members far less than they deserve, and Killian is at the hospital. I also found out that a company in the human world transferred a hundred million into the Shadow Pack account a week ago. Killian claimed it was his returns from investment, but I think we should look into it.”
“Good job. I shall look at the details when I return, but right now, I need you to make a stop somewhere. I will send a coded detail to you.” Voren’s voice carried quiet approval that made Kael’s chest tighten with fierce pride.
“Well noted.” Kael responded, already settling into the next task with focused energy.
After succeeding in the plan, Kael informed Voren, his voice calm but triumphant, the victory singing in his veins. “We have the ammunitions.”
Voren smiled, a rare, genuine smile that reached his eyes and softened the usual hard lines of his face. “Good job, Kael. You deserve a raise.”
When he arrived at the Grimroot Pack, Ravyn followed up with the second part of the plan, his voice tense but controlled, every word edged with careful urgency.
“I just banished four warriors who oversaw the ammunitions. You should help them before the rogues get to them.”
“On it.” Voren replied and ended the call, already moving with focused purpose and cold determination.
He called the leader of the outlanders, his voice cold and commanding, leaving no room for delay. “Four warriors were banished from the Centenary Pack. Ambush and deliver them to me within six hours.”
“Consider it done, King Voren.”
Voren went to check the ammunitions with Seraphine after, and she asked, her brow furrowed with concern that made her voice soft and careful. “How do we test them? We have to be sure that Ravyn was not duped, right?”
Voren nodded, his expression thoughtful and steady, a quiet intensity in his gaze. “I have been thinking about it, and that is why I am waiting for them to strike. We can capture one of them in the process and use him or her for experiment.”
Seraphine loved the idea, her eyes bright with anticipation and quiet fire that made her pulse quicken. “Indeed, and I can experiment their strength too.”
Soon, the four warriors were delivered, and were taken in by the Grimroot Pack with new identities. No one explained the reason, so they saw Voren as their saviors.
Augustine was sent to the Sunlit Pack for auditing a few days later. Due to his previous experience with the council, he was well respected.
Damon was also sent to other packs. By the time Corvine returned, Voren had a detailed report on all the packs’ affairs, ready for personal visits. Kael and Damon left for the human world for a month, and as much as Voren waited for an attack, there was none.
Not from the packs, and not from the Lycans. The silence was deafening, unnerving, a held breath waiting to be released that left a constant low tension coiled tight in his chest.
Kael was learning fast in the human world, determined to make Voren proud. He had maneuvered through Ashkael Holdings, MindNest, and even supported Damon.
Still, he could not get Jasmine out of his mind. She haunted him, a ghost he could not exorcise, the memory of her leaving a quiet ache he refused to name yet could not escape.
Voren received reports upon reports, reviewing and training his pack and even having special training moments with the pups at the academy.
To him, it was never too late to begin intensive training, but for the beginning, those kids were being trained on survival, and watching them grow stronger filled him with fierce protectiveness that warmed every corner of his heart.
Another month passed, and this time, Seraphine’s bump was obvious. Voren was excited whenever he saw it, his heart swelling with joy so deep it almost hurt, and the twins had even begun to kick at the sound of his voice.
He made it a routine to speak to them through Seraphine’s belly every morning, his voice soft and full of wonder that left Seraphine’s eyes shining with love and quiet emotion.
Voren was expecting Kael and Damon’s return, but instead, he received a call from Pete, his voice hesitant and careful. “Sir, can I take a week’s leave?”
Voren knew that Pete had the right to leave, but it was usually done when Voren was around. “Can it not wait until my return?”
“Kael can handle things in my absence, and this is urgent.”
“How urgent?”
Pete was uncomfortable at the end of the line, his voice dropping with nervous energy that made every word tight. “Well, I am dating a girl, and she wants me to meet her family. She said it is a bit far away.”
Voren was about to ask more when Seraphine waved him. He quickly made an excuse and ended the call as Seraphine explained, her voice warm with excitement that lit up her entire face and made her eyes sparkle.
“Nicole called. She is bringing Pete to the pack.”
