Chapter 751 Permission to kill Alpha Killian
Voren turned, his gaze filled with worry when they landed on her. Her punch and kick had been strong, stronger than he expected, and he clearly did not anticipate that move from her, though it was perfectly executed.
His heart lurched in his chest, a spike of fear cutting through him so sharp it nearly stole his breath.
He rushed back to her side, about to pull her into his arms as he spoke, his voice tight with concern. “Are you alright? I should have you checked.”
This time, Seraphine was upset, her eyes flashing with frustration. “I am fine, Voren. I can do this, and you know it. If I experience any discomfort, will you not feel it too?”
That part got Voren. The bond. The connection that tethered them, that let him feel her pain, her joy, her fear. He could not argue with that logic.
He tried a punch without warning, a test, but Seraphine dodged in one smooth movement, following with her own punch which he equally dodged.
The air whistled between them, their movements a dance of power and precision that left the entire gym breathless.
Once again, they had all the warriors’ attention. The gym fell silent, every eye fixed on the king and queen as they sparred. Only Corvine knew Seraphine’s strength, so he was not surprised. He had seen her lead wars, had watched her command warriors with nothing but her will, confidence, and strength.
“Cory, I need to train harder. Sera is pregnant and yet, she is training with Voren. He is not showing her any special preferences, but she is holding up great.”
Corvine smiled, his expression knowing. “Sera used to manage the Centenary pack alone most of the time when Ravyn was always in the city with Daisy. She has even led wars, so you should understand that it takes time. We shall keep training.”
He assured Liah, his voice steady and patient. Liah could not keep her eyes off Seraphine. The queen moved like water, like wind, like something not entirely human.
Voren seemed to be trying to make a point, trying to get a punch on her. The more he failed, the more frustrated he got because she was so fast, so impossibly fast, and the sight of her power filled him with a fierce mix of pride and protective heat.
When Voren was finally able to land a punch on Seraphine’s chest, he froze when he felt her pain and shock through the bond. It hit him like a physical blow, stealing his breath and twisting his gut. But she soon recovered and kicked him, though he dodged it.
“Let me guess, your powers are increasing.” His voice was low, meant only for her, full of quiet awe.
Seraphine nodded, her breath coming in steady, controlled pulls. “Yes, and I feel I will die if I do not let it out. But have you seen improvement with yours? The moon goddess mentioned your strength too.”
Voren smiled, a flash of white teeth. “Do not worry. We shall train outside the pack tomorrow, and I will show you. Be ready for power training.”
Now he was certain she could handle it, and it warmed his heart until it ached with love. Even if a war were to break out, he need not worry for his wife. She was strong, fierce, and she was his.
Seraphine took over the training of the female leaders, and Voren took over the male leaders. Corvine took charge of the training for the male warriors, and Liah had to take charge of the female warriors, suddenly feeling unworthy of the task.
The weight of it pressed down on her, heavy and suffocating, until her confidence wavered.
Corvine assured her, his voice gentle. “Sera has a white wolf, and you already know what that means.”
Only then did Liah regain her confidence, her shoulders squaring, her chin lifting with renewed fire. When training was over, Voren trained exclusively with Augustine and Callum.
No one was surprised when they missed training for three days in a row because of broken bones. The sounds of their groans echoed through the pack grounds, but Voren refused for Seraphine to heal them.
To him, the pain was part of the process, and their wolves should take however long to heal them as part of training their wolves’ response to their pains.
The next day, Voren trained exclusively with Seraphine outside the pack before the normal training began. This was a different kind of training, only exposing the strength of their wolves.
Corvine and Liah left for their honeymoon, their faces bright with joy, and Voren arranged for Kael to leave for audit at the Shadow Pack. However, Kael’s strange excitement caused Voren to frown, his suspicion prickling sharp and sudden.
“Is there something you are not telling me? You seem too excited for this mission.”
Kael did not hide it from him, his grin widening. “Well, I told Alpha Killian he should be ready if I was not the one sent for this mission.”
Voren shook his head, a reluctant smile tugging at his lips. “You shall leave with two warriors, and remember, the outlanders are on our side if things get out of hand. But also remember to call me if there are any problems. However, I would wish for you to handle all problems yourself.”
Kael had handled the Grimroot pack most times when Voren was away, so Voren did not doubt his capabilities. He was only worried because of the influence of the likes of Battal. The world was changing, and the enemies were growing bolder, a cold weight settling in his chest.
A day after Kael left, Voren left for the Western pack with Seraphine, leaving the Grimroot pack in Damon’s hands. Voren wanted as much as possible for his leaders to be all round, with each one capable of handling the other’s responsibilities when the need arose.
Damon had been a beta before, but this was the first time he was going to be left in charge of such a big pack with such big responsibilities. He was only glad to have Augustine and Callum for support.
Neither Seraphine nor Voren had ever visited the Western Tribe before, and for a first time, they decided to go by road with a few warriors.
All visits around packs were supposed to be by road to serve as a check on the safety of traveling through packs, so in a way, Voren was hitting two birds with one stone.
They arrived at night, the darkness wrapping around them like a cloak, and before they could make their presence known to Bright and Cassandra, Voren’s phone rang. Seeing Kael’s, he quickly answered it.
Kael’s voice was urgent, tight with warning. “Voren, give me permission to kill Alpha Killian.”
