Zebulon looked at Penelope’s calm expression and fought the urge to strike her, but her words “touch me, and we’re getting a divorce”-held him back.
“Penelope, it seems I’ve been too good to you, letting you think you could do whatever you want,” he snarled. “That ends now. You’re about to learn where my boundaries are.”
“You say I betrayed you. What about you? What about your affair?” she countered.
“I-It’s not the same!”
“How is it not the same?”
“First of all, I didn’t have an affair! And even if I had, it would be different because
I’m a man! Men and women are not the same! Besides, I was acting for the greater good! As the woman I love, you should understand my difficult position!”
“Ha,” she scoffed. His logic was a thousand years out of date. “What a load of crap.”
Zebulon’s breath hitched with rage. “You just wait. I’m going to find that bastard Nathan, and I swear I’m going to kill him!”
With that, he stormed out of the apartment. Mrs. Sullivan and Rebecca, hearing his threat, chased after him.
“The KINY Group project is too important! Don’t ruin the partnership over this!” “Zebulon, think of the bigger picture!”
“It’s not his fault, son! Penelope must have seduced him!”
“Zebulon, Penelope was in the wrong! Make her apologize!”

When Rebecca returned, she looked at the disaster that was her home and was on the verge of tears.

With Rebecca’s apartment
uninhabitable, Penelope had planned to stay in a hotel. But when Mr. Johnson heard what happened, sent his lawyer over with a stack of property deeds-more than ten luxury homes-offering to sign them over to her, free of charge.
She couldn’t possibly accept them, but she hesitantly chose a house in the same neighborhood as the Sullivans. She agreed to have the title transferred to her name, but with the understanding that if things went south between them she would buy it from him outright That way, she could have some peace of mind.
The house came with a housekeeper and was fully furnished. She moved in with just a single suitcase. Rebecca, having nowhere else to go, moved in with her.
“Penelope, are you renting this place?” Rebecca asked, her eyes wide as she took in the spacious, three-story villa in the best part of the neighborhood.
“Something like that,” she replied vaguely.
“The rent must be astronomical.”
“It’s not too bad.”
“But you don’t have a job or an income right now. You shouldn’t be
renting such an expensive place.

Rebecca forced a laugh. “It’s none of my business. I just feel bad for him, working so hard to earn money.”
“If you feel so bad for him, maybe I should just move back in with the Sullivans.”
“I wouldn’t do that. After what happened, Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan probably want to skin you alive. Going back there now would be suicide.”
Penelope just snorted and walked to the window, looking out at the Sullivan estate across the street. Skin her alive? We’ll see who skins whom.
That afternoon, Mrs. Sullivan came over. Rebecca let her in, and she shot a venomous glare at Penelope before handing Rebecca a gown and a jewelry box.
“Rebecca, you have to be the star of the show at tonight’s gala.”
Tonight’s gala? They were going too? Penelope glanced at the invitation in her own purse and smiled. This was going to be interesting.
