Chapter 639
It took Yvonne three tries before Marico finally answered.
“Whatever it is, make it quick. I’m busy!”
Yvonne frowned. She absolutely despised the way Marico spoke to her, as if she were trash.
“Where are you? It’s so loud.”
“None of your business.”
“Marico, it’s my birthday. You’re my fiancé. How could you not come to my party!”
“Is that all?”
“Marico!”
“I’m hanging up.”
“Marico, don’t forget we’re partners! I helped you, so you have to help me!”
“I said I’m busy!”
“What are you even doing?”
“Working as an extra.”
“What?”
“Someone recently told me that with a face this handsome, it’d be a crime against nature not to be an actor.”
Yvonne was so furious she saw black spots. “I… I need you at my house within the hour, or else—”
Before she could finish, he hung up.
“Marico!” Yvonne screamed into the phone, utterly exasperated.
Just as she was about to call him again, she saw Penelope striding toward her with a strange expression.
A few minutes later, everyone at the party was in shock.
The two birthday girls, the granddaughters of the Bishop family, were fighting. It was a no-holds-barred brawl-pulling hair, kicking legs, with no regard for the occasion or their images.
Hans had just finished reassuring a few of his old business associates, affirming his decision to make Yvonne his heir and asking them to look out for her in the future.
When he heard the commotion and saw the scene, the room started to spin, and he felt an overwhelming urge to faint.
The elegant party had devolved into a complete farce.
Penelope took a kick, but she’d achieved her goal. After leaving the Bishop estate and getting into Theodore’s car, she opened her hand with a triumphant grin, revealing a clump of Yvonne’s hair.
“Let’s go get a paternity test done right now!”
Theodore looked at Penelope’s disheveled hair and clothes, his mouth twitching.
“I thought you’d use your wits.”
“When it comes to fighting, I never lose. So for me, fighting is using my wits!” Penelope said proudly.
Meanwhile, on the film set, it was
time for Marico’s scene as the bandit. He had hastily hung up on Yvonne, put on a lecherous expression, and when the director yelled ‘Action!”, he grabbed the second female lead, whispering in her ear, “My girl, now that you’ve fallen into my hands, I promise I’ll take very good care of you!”
Natalie was sitting next to the director, watching Marico’s performance on the
monitor with a complicated expression.
“Who hired him?”
The director also looked conflicted.
“He signed up himself. The crew manager saw he had a good look and past him, even gave him a line. I didn’t expect… he’s actually pretty good, but something about it feels… off
Natalie paused. “He’s playing himself too much.”
“Playing himself?”
“Ahem, just a guess.”
“No, it’s not that. It’s… seeing such a handsome face say such sleazy lines feels jarring. And look at the actress—she’s not resisting, she’s practically melting into his arms, as if she’s afraid he won’t rob her.”
In any case, the feeling was wrong, so the director yelled, “Cut!”
Natalie had already finished her
scenes for the day. She had originally come to the director to ask for time off, but the female lead’s scenes had been going poorly, and the director was already frustrated. So she hesitated.
Benson was still putting his team together, so it would be a while before filming for
his movie began. She was using the downtime to appear in other projects,
reminding the industry and her fans that she was back.
