Chapter 538

The next morning, Natalie burst into her bedroom door, shouting, “Kristin and Hubert are gone! I think they went out!”
Hearing this, Penelope shot out of bed.
This wasn’t their small town; it was a sprawling metropolis. Two six-year-olds on their own were in serious danger.
They rushed out to search, first checking the apartment complex. When they couldn’t find them, they hurried to the security office. On the surveillance footage, they saw the two children, dressed in matching tracksuits and baseball caps, carrying small backpacks and holding hands as they left.
Once outside, they even hailed a cab and drove off.
“Don’t panic yet. I’ll check the external cameras. I should be able to get the cab’s license plate number,” the security guard said, quickly working to pull up the footage.
Penelope was worried, of course, but the most important thing now was to calmly figure out where they could have gone.
“They don’t know Orenth at all! Where could they possibly go?” Natalie was too frantic to think clearly.
Penelope, however, was a bit calmer. Hubert, though mischievous, was usually sensible, especially when Kristin was with him. He would have been prepared and extra cautious.
“It has to be because of what happened yesterday,” Penelope said.
“Kristin was really upset, and Hubert was furious, but after I explained things to them, they seemed to let it go.”
“Don’t forget, they’re the type to hold a grudge.”
“So they went to get revenge on Hamilton?”
“They’d never be able to find Hamilton, but they might be able to find Maria’s daughter.”
At that, both women’s eyes lit up.
“The school!”
Just then, the guard found the license plate number. “You can look up the owner’s phone number and call to ask where he dropped the kids off.”
At the kindergarten entrance, Hubert and Kristin got out of the cab and blended in with the other children heading inside.
The security guards stood on either side, but perhaps because the two kids acted so composed, no one suspected a thing, even though they weren’t in uniform.
Once inside the school grounds, they quickly found a corner to hide in antil they saw Queena arrive. They then stealthily followed her all the way to her classroom.
“What do we do now?” Kristin asked.
Hubert thought for a moment.

“You’re not students at this school!”
Startled by the voice, they turned to see a tall, handsome boy with a serious
expression staring at them with dark eyes.

still shorter. He stood on his tiptoes, feeling more imposing.
“We’re new!”
Julian glanced at Hubert’s tiptoes and sneered. “This is the senior class. You two
should be in the junior class!”
“I’m six years old.”
“Really? I thought you were five.”
“You’re looking down on me!”
“Think whatever you want. I don’t even know you.”
Julian gave them another lazy glance and walked towards his classroom.
Seeing that he was in the same class as Queena, Hubert pouted. “So he’s her classmate. No wonder he’s just as annoying!”
Kristin nodded in agreement but added, “But he’s really pretty.”
