“Why do I need to pick a dress?” Penelope asked, completely bewildered.

Her question seemed to confuse the stylist even more.

“Wasn’t it you who booked an appointment with our studio for a styling session?”

Penelope held up a hand, asking them to wait. She was about to call Harold when he hurried in.

“My apologies, Ms. Laurier. There was traffic. I’m late.”

Harold was still in his work uniform, so he must have rushed over from the office.

“Here is the invitation. Mr. Stapleton has asked you to attend in his place.”

Penelope found the whole situation baffling. “When did I agree to attend some banquet on his behalf?”

“Please, open the invitation and see for yourself.”

Penelope sighed, took the invitation, and opened it. To her shock, it was for a banquet hosted by the Bishop family.

Donald was still in the hospital, his life hanging in the balance, and they were throwing a party?

“In two days, the Bishop Group is holding a shareholder meeting. Hans will be nominating Yvonne as the new chairwoman of the board. You should understand what that means.”

Penelope frowned. He was planning to step back and let Yvonne take full control of the Bishop Group.

“This banquet is for Yvonne. Whether it’s to send a message or to win over supporters, the bottom line is that if nothing unexpected happens, Yvonne will smoothly take the chairman’s seat at the meeting in two days!”

Penelope looked down. Why was Hans in such a hurry to push Yvonne into that position? Was he afraid Penelope would fight for it? She let out a cold laugh. That was probably it.

But she would never believe that Judy and Yvonne weren’t the ones pushing this behind the scenes. She had no interest in the Bishop family’s assets, but what if Yvonne really wasn’t her father’s daughter? And what if the two of them were involved in his accident?

At that thought, Penelope’s hand tightened around the invitation. “Get me ready.”

By the time she arrived at the Bishop manor, the driveway was already lined with cars. Renelope ha com alone. She got out of her car and walked straight toward the entrance.

The Bishop family’s butler recognized her, and his face immediately soured. He quickly stepped forward to block her path.

“The Bishop family is hosting a banquet tonight for distinguished guests from all walks of life. Ms.

Laurier, ever if you intend to cause trouble, please choose another time!”

“Who said I’m here to cause trouble? I’m here to attend the banquet,” Penelope said, narrowing her eyes.

The butler paused. “My apologies, but you do not have an invitation. You may not enter.”

“Who says I don’t have an invitation?” Penelope retorted, pulling the invitation from her purse.

Even after seeing it, the butler didn’t move aside.

“Ms. Laurier, must I spell it out for you? The Bishop family does not welcome you. Please leave at once!”

Penelope’s face hardened. “Are you getting old and senile? Have you forgotten who I am?”

“The master has not acknowledged you, so you are not a Bishop!”

“A Bishop?” Penelope scoffed. “As if I care about that!”

She opened the invitation and shoved it in the butler’s face.

“See this? am representing the

Stapleton family! Or is the Bishomet

family so exclusive now that even the Stapletons aren’t welcome, despite having an invitation?”

The butler looked closely and saw that it was indeed an invitation addressed to the Stapleton family.

This put him in a difficult position. He couldn’t very well turn away a representative of the Stapleton family.

While the butler was struggling with what to do, Penelope strode right past him and into the manor.
