Chapter 608

“Could you two please think carefully? Was there anything unusual about my father before the accident? Did he say anything that struck you as strange?”
The agent was confused. “Ms. Laurier, what do you mean by that?”
Penelope thought for a moment. “My father called me right before the accident, and he sounded very agitated. I suspect he might have run into some kind of trouble.”
“I see,” the agent said, pondering. “Mr. Bishop was on set before the accident, and the shoot was going smoothly. We spoke on the phone during that time, and I didn’t get the sense that anything was wrong.”
Penelope nodded and then looked at the assistant.
The assistant was still thinking hard. After a moment, he said, “A few days before the accident, Mr. Bishop took a call and then rushed off the set. When I asked him later, he said it was a family matter. And the day before, he took another call and seemed very dazed afterward. He then asked me to tell the director to postpone all his scenes for the day. Right after that, he called you and left to meet you.”
Penelope frowned. “So he received two strange phone calls.”
“I can’t be sure, but I can say that Mr. Bishop’s demeanor was off after both calls.”
Penelope thought again of Donald’s phone, which was still in Judy’s possession. Why, in the chaotic aftermath of the accident, was her first instinct to secure his phone?
There was definitely something suspicious about that.
“Yves, why didn’t you tell me you were coming to the hospital?”
The sudden voice startled all three of them as they were deep in conversation.
Penelope turned to see Judy approaching with a cold expression.
Had she heard everything they just said?
Judy glanced at her, then turned to the agent. “Since when did you two get so close?”
The agent looked awkward. “I only found out about Mr. Bishop’s accident after Ms. Laurier told me.”
“Are you blaming me for not telling you?”
“No, it’s just that some work matters really needed to be arranged.”
“You’ve seen his condition. Go back and dissolve the studio.”
“What?”
“What, do you think he’s going to get up and work for you again?”
Seeing Judy’s temper, the agent didn’t dare say more and left with the assistant.
Judy snorted coldly and turned back to Penelope, her eyes narrowing. “You can get lost too!”
“I want to see my father’s phone!”
At the mention of the phone, Judy’s eyes flickered.
“Don’t even think about it!”
“Are you hiding something?”
“Why should I let you see
“I will get my hands on it!”
Penelope caught up with the agent and assistant asking them not to publicize Donald’s condition yet avoid any harassment while bis health was still unstable.
“Of course. We also hope you won’t give up until the very end, Ms. Laurier.”
“I won’t.”
After seeing them off, Penelope
started walking back and
unexpectedly ran into Sherry, left foot was in a cast. She was heading outside on crutches.
“Hey, Ms. Laurier, what a coincidence,” Sherry greeted her warmly.
Penelope walked closer. “Ms. Austin, what happened to you?”
“I just twisted my ankle coming down the stairs the other day. It’s nothing serious.”
“I see you’re heading out. Do you need any help?”
“I just wanted to get some fresh air.”
“I could use some fresh air too. Let’s go together.”
Penelope helped Sherry to a bench
in front of the hospital building.
Sherry remarked on holdinge
seemed to bring them together, even
at a hospital.
“By the way, we can be friends now.”
“Oh?”
Sherry smiled. “Because Theodore and I broke up.”
