Chapter 319
“You want us to kill Theodore Stapleton’s wife? Are you trying to get us killed even faster?” Hunter clenched his fists, ready to attack Chasel again.
“What’s the alternative? Let her go?” Chasel smirked. “She’s seen all your faces. Do you really think she won’t have her husband hunt you down?”
“I’m going to kill you first!” Hunter grabbed Chasel by the collar.
“This card has three hundred thousand in it!” Chasel yelled.
“What are you talking about?”
“You have two options. Help me kill her and take the money, or kill me and then wait for Theodore to kill you.”
Hunter gritted his teeth, then punched Chasel in the face and snatched the card from his hand.
“If the money isn’t there when this is over, you know what will happen to you.”
Chasel wiped a smear of blood from his mouth. “Don’t worry. I don’t want to die either.”
He turned to Penelope, his eyes gleaming with triumph.
“Penelope, you’re finally in my hands.”
Penelope had been waiting for Chasel to show his face. Now, he was here.
“Extortion, kidnapping, and murder. Are you trying to spend the rest of your life in prison, Chasel?”
He narrowed his eyes. “I don’t care, as long as you die before I do.”
“Have you forgotten who I am?”
“You’re going to say you’re Theodore’s wife, Mrs. Stapleton Jr. That might scare them, but it doesn’t scare me.”
“I am Penelope Laurier.”
“Heh. So?”
“So, you messed with me. And now you’re finished.”
Before the words had even left her
mouth, she moved. She kicked away the two thugs on either side of her and
2nged för Hunter. He swore
and swung his knife at her
She knew how to fight and could usually handle herself, but this was different. These men were big, and they were experienced brawlers. She was outmatched. Official source ıs
She knew her own limits. So she went for the king. She focused all her energy on Hunter.
As she fought him, the others closed in, landing blows she couldn’t avoid. But she ignored the pain, driven by a raw ferocity, and pressed her attack on Hunter.
Her sheer aggression was terrifying. Hunter found himself backing away.
The moment he retreated, she saw her opening. She lunged forward, grabbing him and pressing the small knife she’d hidden to his throat.
“Take another step, and your boss dies.”
The thugs froze. Penelope took a few deep, ragged breaths to steady herself.
Her hair was a mess, and her body ached from the blows she’d taken, but she had achieved her goal.
Hunter looked down at the knife at his throat. It wasn’t large or
particularly sharp, but he knew this woman was more than capable using it to kill him. She had a
ruthless streak that was impossible to miss.
“Chasel, you son of a bitch!” he growled.
Not only had he not told him who this woman was, but he’d also failed to mention
that she was a predator, not prey.
Chasel didn’t care about Hunter’s life. “What are you waiting for? Get her!” he yelled at the other thugs.
“Bastard!” Hunter roared, his veins bulging. “Get him first! Beat the hell out of him!” His men obeyed. They descended on Chasel, their fists flying.
Chasel crumpled to the ground. He looked up at Penelope, who was watching him with cold, unforgiving eyes.
“Remember this place, Penelope? It’s your old home.”
He grinned, a bloody mess. “I remember coming here once and seeing my uncle string you up from the ceiling fan and beat you You were @pathetic sight. Look up. That’s the fan, right there. Does it
bring back memories?”
