Chapter 397
“Sweetheart, look what Grandpa made for you.”
“A wooden horse?”
“Do you like it?”
“Grandpa, I’m twenty-seven years old, not a child!”
“Only twenty-seven! You’re still a child to me!” Fresh chapters posted on.net
“Grandpa!”
“In my eyes, my little sweetheart will always be my baby.”
The heartwarming conversation drifted from the back garden. Penelope took a few steps closer, her view partially obscured by a hedge. She could see Hans and Yvonne a short distance away.
Hans was a legend in the business world. He had inherited two department stores from his father and, through bold renovations and upgrades, had transformed them from budget outlets into Orenth’s premier luxury shopping destinations, riding the wave of economic growth. Over the next two decades, he expanded his empire nationwide, making the Bishop Group the powerhouse it was today.
To the world, he was a decisive and formidable figure, the epitome of an old-school tycoon. But here at home, he was a different man. Wearing an apron and holding a carving knife, he was carefully putting the finishing touches on the wooden horse, eagerly waiting for his granddaughter to try it.
Yvonne pouted. “People will laugh at me if they see this!”
“Let’s see who dares!” Hans said, putting on a stern face.
Yvonne giggled and sat on the horse, which was perfectly sized for her. She gripped the handles and gave it a tentative rock.
“Whoa!” she yelped as it tilted forward, but it was sturdy and rocked right back. After a few more rocks, she was laughing.
“Is it fun?”
“It is! But why does the little horse have a horn on its head?”
“It’s a flying pony.”
“It looks like a handle.”
“Well, try opening it.”
Yvonne grabbed the horn and pulled. What she found inside made her gasp with delight.
“It’s… it’s full of candy!”
Hans leaned in, pleased with himself. “And they’re all your favorite flavors!”
Yvonne looked at the candy, then threw her arms around Hans’ neck in a tight hug.
“Grandpa, did you know I’ve been in a bad mood lately? Is that why you did all this for me?”
Hans held his granddaughter, his
voice full of sympathy. “He’s just one man. I don’t even think Theodore
is
good enough for my precious granddaughter. Let’s forget about him Grandpa Will find you a better man.”
“No, I only want him.”
“It breaks my heart to see you like this.”
“I hate… no, I despise that Penelope! She stole the man I love and then… then she
set me up to humiliate me!”
Hans had clearly heard about what happened at the gala. His expression.darkened. “This
Penelope she comes from a

common background it’s no wonder
she resorts to such vulgar tricks. She’s truly detestable.”
“She even called me a homewrecker!”
“Who does she think she is!”
“What does Theodore even see in her?”
“She’s not just manipulative, she’s ugly too!”
“I’m going to get Theodore back, no matter what!”
“Whatever my sweetheart wants, she will have. And we’ll make that Penelope get on
her knees and apologize to you!”
Penelope almost laughed out loud.
The CEO of a massive corporation, stooping to such childish
name-calling just to console his granddaughter? It was pathetic Hans was obviously just trying to placate Yvonne, but the disgust in his eyes was genuine.
“Your tactics are too amateurish,” Hans continued. “When you’re dealing with someone like Penelope, you have to be ruthless. If you give her even a moment to breathe, she’ll bite back, hard.”
“She’s nothing but a stray dog!”
