Penelope was stunned for a long moment. The reason was that simple.
She had considered that Hans might be motivated by profit, by his dislike for Edith and her, or by his anger at her past opposition. She never imagined it was simply because of his love for Yvonne.
Even now, she couldn’t quite understand it.
Perhaps, as Hans said, she had never experienced the love of a doting grandfather, so she couldn’t comprehend it.
“Take a look at that sixty-story Bishop Group building across the street,” Hans said.
Penelope turned to look. It stood proudly in the city center, a magnificent tower that was the heart of the Bishop family’s business empire.
“I intend to leave everything I’ve created to my precious granddaughter. No one, not even my own son, is as important to me as she is.”
“As for you, you are utterly insignificant.”
“So give up. I will never acknowledge you as my granddaughter, and I will never let you return to the Bishop family!”
Penelope might not understand his reasoning, but she wasn’t deaf to his words or blind to his actions.
“Is the Bishop family really all that?”
Hans’ face darkened. “Of course the Bishop family is all that!”
“Hah. You may think so, but I don’t give a damn about it.”
“You think marrying Theodore means you own everything the Stapletons have? That you can look down on the Bishop family?”
“I don’t need to own anyone’s family fortune. I’m perfectly content with what I have.” “What do you have? That’s laughable!”

Hans narrowed his eyes. “You asked me here today about the Bishop Group’s hotels rejecting Stapleton Tech’s robots, am I right?”

“And what if I say the matter is not negotiable? We will definitely not be taking those robots.”

Hans pursed his lips. He had always admired smart people, and Penelope was certainly one of them.

“Penelope!” Hans slammed the table. “If you dare insult my granddaughter again, you’ll regret it!”
“I want the surveillance footage of the robot injuring the guest!”
“And you think I’d give it to you?”
“Your refusal means something’s fishy about the incident!”

Hans took a deep, steadying breath. “That is an incredibly irresponsible accusation.

“Please do. That way, you’ll be forced to produce the footage,” Penelope said with a smile.
