Chapter 603

When Jonas entered the room, he saw Penelope frantically searching for
something.
“Where is my father’s phone?” she asked him.
Jonas wasn’t sure what she was up to, but he thought hard.
“When Donald was brought to the hospital after the accident, his phone kept ringing.
I remember Judy taking it from his pocket.”
“She’s the one who sent that text.”
Penelope frowned. Was it just to keep her from coming to the hospital? To prevent a father and daughter from having a final moment together?
Then she remembered something else. Donald had called her to meet him that afternoon. He had sounded so urgent, and when she asked what was wrong, he didn’t even have time to explain…
No, something was definitely wrong here.
“I know that Donald has been in touch with you for the past few years. He wanted to acknowledge you as his daughter, but the family, especially my father, was against it. They argued about it several times.”
Jonas let out a long sigh. “I understand how you feel. I don’t want to give up on him either, but I also understand Judy’s feelings. She just doesn’t want to see Donald suffer.”
Jonas was an honest man; that was her definite assessment of him.
As the youngest son of the Bishop family, he had never tried to compete with Donald for the family fortune. Even when his father showed blatant favoritism toward his granddaughter, planning to leave the business to her instead of his own children, Jonas never complained. Instead, he dedicated himself to helping his niece establish herself in the company.
Of course, his own capabilities played a role, but his clear-headed acceptance of his limitations and his refusal to fight for the sake of the family’s stability spoke volumes about his character.
Thinking this, Penelope decided to tell Jonas about the text message Judy had sent from Donald’s phone.
“It was wrong of Judy to do that,” he said.
“I’m not trying to make an issue of that. My concern is that my father seemed to have anticipated that he was in danger. That’s why he called me in such a hurry. If it was just a traffic accident, how could he have predicted it?”
At first, Jonas didn’t grasp the implication of her words. After a moment of thought, a look of shock spread across his face.
“Are you saying Donald’s accident wasn’t an accident at all? That… someone tried to harm him?”
“I have my suspicions.”
Jonas frowned. “But who would want to hurt Donald? He’s always been kind and generous. I’ve never heard him mention making any enemies.”
As they were talking, Hans stormed
into the room, filled with rage.
Behind him were Judy,
a man in a suit. His eyes

immediately locked onto Penelope.
“I don’t recognize you as part of this family! What right do you have to take what
belongs to the Bishops!”
Penelope was stunned. “What did I take from the Bishop family?”
“And you’re still playing dumb!”
Hans was furious, shouting every word.
Jonas stepped forward, trying to calm him down, reminding him that this was a hospital room and they should take their discussion outside.

Hans glanced at his son lying in hospital bed, a flicker of pain in his eyes. But when his gaze returned to Penelope, the anger flared up again.
“We’re going outside. And today, you are going to return what you took from the Bishop family!”
With that, Hans turned and left the room.
Judy and Yvonne shot Penelope a venomous glare before following him out. The man in the suit, however, walked over to Penelope.
“Ms. Laurier, do you remember me?”
Penelope had to look closely before she recognized him as the lawyer Donald had introduced her to before.
“Henry?”
“Yes, it’s me.” The man glanced at Donald and sighed before
continuing. “Before his accident, Mr. Bishop transferred his personal assets to you it seems the rest of the Bishop family cannot accept this, so you may be facing some trouble.”
