Hamilton turned to look at Maria. “You want Natalie’s daughter to transfer?”

Maria sighed. “I’m just thinking about what’s best for both our families.”

“Then why shouldn’t your daughter be the one to transfer?”

Maria was stunned. “This is one of the best schools in Orenth. Why would Queena transfer? What….. what do you mean?”

Hamilton looked away and thought for a moment before calling the school principal.

“You’re aware of what happened yesterday.”

“You don’t need to apologize. I want Kristin to be transferred out.”

“I’ll speak to Mr. Stapleton myself. You just need to inform Kristin’s guardian.”

Hearing Hamilton’s words, Maria felt a wave of relief and a surge of confidence. He loved her. Even with Natalie back, that fact wouldn’t change.

All she had to do was hold her ground and find a way to drive Natalie and her daughter out of Orenth, and then she would have nothing to worry about.

Natalie was nearly done with filming. That afternoon, she and Kristin drove back to the city.

As they were nearing home, she received a call from the school principal informing her that Kristin had to transfer. She was completely blindsided.

“Mr. Lancaster, you have to give me a reason.”

The principal hemmed and hawed for a moment before asking, “You’re aware of what happened at the school yesterday, aren’t you?”

She called Hamilton. “Where are you?”

Natalie drove straight to his house. It was only when she had parked that she remembered Kristin was still in the car. But Kristin had stayed up late the night before and had been sleeping the entire ride.

Natalie didn’t wake her. She locked the car and walked to Hamilton’s house alone.

Wendy, the housekeeper, opened the door and froze when she saw Natalie.

“Mrs. Amos, you… you’re…?”

Before Natalie could speak, Maria, dressed in pajamas, chimed in, “Wendy, who are you calling ‘Mrs. Amos’? Are you getting senile?”

Wendy didn’t dare cross Maria. She gave Natalie a quick nod and hurried off to busy herself elsewhere.

Natalie walked straight in, but Maria blocked her path.

“It’s no use talking to Hamilton. I’m the one who got your daughter kicked out.”
