The Year I Was the Other Woman To Myself Chapter 696

Chapter 696

She was still in her evening gown, and Theodore was in his suit. Sitting at a roadside barbecue stand, they looked completely out of place.

They were likely on the outskirts of the city, surrounded by construction sites, so most of the customers were construction workers. They smoked, drank, and spoke loudly, which was fine, but a few of them kept staring at her, making Penelope uncomfortable.

Fortunately, the food arrived quickly. Penelope urged Theodore to eat fast so they could leave.

Theodore had also noticed the stares. He shot a cold glare in their direction, but instead of backing down, one of them whistled, and the others burst out laughing.

“How long’s it been since we’ve been home?” a man in a battered black leather jacket asked his friend across the table.

The friend, who was even burlier than the first man, counted on his fingers. “Eight months.”

“Eight months, huh? Miss your wife?”

“Of course I do.”

“You must be missing those intimate moments with her, huh?”

“I’m really having a hard time holding back.!”

That sent the whole table into another round of laughter.

“So you’re just horny. No wonder you’re drooling over another man’s wife.”

“Like you aren’t?”

“I’m dying over here.”

Just as he said that, a beer bottle smashed onto their table. With a loud crack, glass shards and beer sprayed everywhere. The men scrambled to get out of the way, but one of them got a cut on his face.

When they recovered, they turned to look at Theodore, who was glaring back at them, his eyes filled with menace.

It wasn’t just them; Penelope was also shocked. She hadn’t expected Theodore to resort to violence so quickly.

“I suggest you leave now. Don’t mess with him!” Penelope warned the group.

Of course, that didn’t work. Seeing

that there were only two of them against their group of seven or eight burly men, they weren’t about to back down. The man in the leather jacket, who seemed to be their leader, shot a look at his friends and yelled, “Let’s beat the crap out of him first!”

At his command, the others charged forward.

Theodore, simmering with rage, met them head-on. He was a trained fighter and managed to hold his own against six or seven opponents, though he inevitably took a few hits.

Penelope saw the leader in the leather jacket trying to sneak up behind Theodore. She grabbed a stool and slammed it against his back.

The man staggered, turning to see it was Penelope. He grinned, baring his teeth.

“I was gonna leave you alone since you’re a woman, but you started it. Don’t blame

me for what happens next!” he snarled and lunged at her.

His posture suggested he was more interested in groping her than fighting.

Penelope scoffed, spinning around

and delivering a flying kick that sent him sprayling to the ground. The man was stunned for a moment before scrambling back up, swinging his fists at her. Penelope dodged gracefully and then kicked him

squarely in the ribs.

She was wearing high heels, and the impact made him cry out in pain.

When it came to fighting, Penelope had never lost, and neither had Theodore. Though it was just the two of them, they left the entire group of men scattered on the ground, begging for mercy.

Just as they were catching their breath, two police cars pulled up.

Half an hour later, they were at the police station.

As Penelope walked in, she glanced at the time. It was past midnight.

“See?” she said to Theodore with a sigh. “This is what happens when you don’t go home. You end up in a police station.”
