“Has Amos forgotten that Evan died after all three of them joined forces against him?” Stella asked.
If Felix and Aaron had not joined forces with General Litt that night, Evan probably would not have died so easily.
At the mention of Evan’s death, Remi’s expression turned slightly strange.
“Amos knows all of that. But if he says he doesn’t need your help, then he doesn’t need it.”
“I see. Fine, then.”
Stella said it was fine.
But in truth, she still hoped Amos’s operation would succeed tonight.
She did not want someone like Litt continuing to threaten her from the shadows.
“Have you found out what the connection was between Summer and Litt?”
“Not yet.”
They still had no idea why General Litt had cared so much about Summer.
He had even been willing to kill Stella for her.
Stella had wanted to know the truth.
But now, it no longer seemed that important.
A faint smile touched her lips.
“Then stop investigating.”
Remi blinked.
“What?”
“Litt will be joining Summer tonight anyway.”
Stella had never intended to target Litt.
But he had threatened her life for Summer’s sake.
People were capable of many things when forced to protect themselves.
Stella was no different.
She had never wanted to become involved in this world of schemes and bloodshed.
She had never wanted to become like them.

But those people kept trying to drag her into the abyss with them.
If she wanted to escape, she had no choice but to cut away the hands pulling her down.
Remi nodded.
“Understood.”
Then she left.
Stella remained alone.
Amos had sent word that he did not want her involved tonight.
But this matter concerned her directly.
How could she possibly stand aside and do nothing?
Once Remi was gone, Stella called Felix.
He answered quickly.
“Stella.”
Exhaustion weighed heavily in his voice.
Felix had been searching for her all this time, and it was obvious the search had worn him down.
He had never expected her to become so impossible to find after leaving Eirden again.
“Come to Seaborne tonight and pick me up.”
“You’re in Seaborne?”
“Yes.”
Remi had told her General Litt would be on Mance Island tonight.
That meant Amos’s operation would almost certainly take place there.
Stella, meanwhile, intended to lure Felix to another part of Seaborne.
She could not name somewhere else.
Felix was too suspicious. He would never believe her without a plausible explanation.
Seaborne was the only location that made sense.
“My people have searched Seaborne in secret for weeks,” Felix said. “They never found you.”
“I left Eirden because I didn’t want you to find me. Why would I make it easy?”
“Then how did you…”

“Isn’t the most dangerous place often the safest?”
Felix went silent.
The most dangerous place was the safest.
It did make sense.
They had never searched Seaborne as thoroughly as they could have.
After Stella disappeared, they had assumed she would never go there.
But now…
“Are you really in Seaborne?” Suspicion entered Felix’s voice.
Stella gave a soft laugh.
“See? When I refuse to tell you where I am, you’re desperate to know. But when I finally tell you, you don’t
believe me.”
“Being honest really is difficult.”
“Stella, with everything happening right now, you suddenly asking me to come get you…”
“I understand,” she said lightly. “But let me warn you. Once tonight is over, if you want to know where I am again…”
“I’m coming to Seaborne now.”
Felix cut her off before she could finish.
