Chapter 203
“There’s a women’s and children’s hospital nearby,” Patrick said, glancing at the route on the GPS. “Just over a kilometer away. If we turn back and go to the same hospital as the baby, it’s another six or seven.”
“Go,” Evan snapped.
“Got it.”
Patrick switched the route immediately.
Evan pulled Stella into his arms. “What’s going on? Why are you bleeding again?”
But Stella couldn’t answer.
She blacked out.
The sharp smell of disinfectant filled the air.
Everything felt blank.
By the time Evan rushed Stella to the hospital, his mind had gone empty.
She was inside the ER.
And he…
He stood outside the doors without moving.
Like he’d been set in concrete.
Patrick came back after paying the hospital fees.
He wanted to say something, but the violent aura around Evan was so intense that he didn’t dare step
forward.
Evan’s phone kept vibrating.
Over and over.
It was probably Dora or Summer.
He didn’t answer.
Not until an hour later, when Stella was finally wheeled out.
She was still groggy.
The moment Evan saw the doctor, he stepped forward. “Doctor, how is she?”
The doctor pulled down his mask. “A miscarriage is still postpartum recovery. She shouldn’t be running around like this.”
“It’s dangerous.”

The word postpartum hit Evan like a blow.
He stared at the doctor indisbelief. “W-what did you say? Postpartum?”
“I know people like you don’t take this seriously,” the doctor said sharply. “A woman miscarries one day and goes right back to work the next. But this does real damage to her body. If she needs rest, then she needs rest.”
The doctor looked at him like he was a deeply irresponsible husband.
His tone was terrible.
And under that barrage of words, Evan went completely rigid.
In the VIP room, Stella was still unconscious under the effects of the medication.
Evan walked to the door like his legs were filled with lead.
Patrick followed behind him.
After looking in at Stella, Patrick said, “Marianne is on her way. I’ve also arranged for a caregiver.”
Evan’s chest kept rising and falling.
Ever since hearing the doctor, his breathing hadn’t settled.
Even now, his head was still ringing.
When he finally spoke, he could barely hear his own voice.
“Postpartum… means miscarriage?”
The question came out dull and stiff.
Like part of him still couldn’t believe it.
But even more than that, he sounded like he couldn’t breathe.

Patrick nodded. “Yes. That’s what the doctor meant. Madam miscarried.”
The word miscarried drove into Evan’s chest like a needle,
Miscarried.
She really had been pregnant.
Everything Stella had done these past few days had been because of this.
And yet Evan had never believed her.
Not once.
He had thought she was just making a scene.
Thought the miscarriage existed only in her head.

Evan closed his eyes.
When he opened them again, there was a flash of cold violence in them.
“That doctor under investigation,” he said. “I want you to interrogate her yourself.”
The last words came out as a roar.
In that moment, he looked like a beast that had finally snapped.
He kicked the bench in the hallway so hard it scraped sideways with a harsh screech.
