Chapter 914
“That’s impossible.”
No matter what Evan claimed, Felix could not believe he had actually ordered Summer’s death.
“So he’s taking the blame for Stella?” Aaron asked.
If that was Evan’s intention, Aaron was not impressed.
The Hogarth family did not need him to protect Stella, and they certainly did not want to owe him for it.
Felix said nothing.
But the possibility stayed with him.
Evan had treated Stella terribly in the past. There was no denying that.
Yet perhaps his feelings for her had always been real.
Felix knew how much the Black Sea operation meant to Evan. The timing was critical, and drawing General Litt’s attention now could jeopardize everything.
Even if Evan truly had been responsible for Summer’s death, admitting it at this moment would have been
reckless.
But he had done it anyway..
He had not stopped to calculate the risks or consider what it might cost him.
He had simply drawn the danger away from Stella and placed it on himself.
Aaron gave a cold laugh.
“The Hogarth family doesn’t owe him anything.”
Whatever Evan thought he had done for Stella, Aaron had no intention of treating it as a favor.
Felix considered calling Stella.
But when he took out his phone, he realized he had no idea what to say.
Evan’s decision had forced Felix to confront an uncomfortable truth.
When Stella was threatened, Evan had acted immediately.
Felix had hesitated.
Aaron seemed to understand what he was thinking.
“Don’t read too much into it,” he said. “Evan’s feelings have never been reliable.’
Felix looked at him.
“Stella was pregnant while she was with him, and he still failed to protect her,” Aaron continued. “One grand gesture now doesn’t erase everything he did before.”
As far as Aaron was concerned, Evan’s attempt to protect Stella had come far too late.

“You’re still the one I trust with her,” he added.
Felix often weighed risks against rewards before making a move.
But Aaron believed he would never intentionally sacrifice Stella.
“I considered taking the blame too,” Felix admitted.
If General Litt believed Felix had been responsible for Summer’s death, his attention would shift away from Stella.
Felix had thought of that solution.
He simply had not acted on it yet.
He had planned to wait until the Black Sea operation was over.
Evan had not waited.
“But you had a reason,” Aaron said. “Stella is with Evan right now.”
Felix could not redirect Litt toward Evan without also putting Stella in the line of fire.
That was why he had chosen a different approach.
He had intended to deal with General Litt himself while carrying out the Black Sea operation.
Neither Felix nor Aaron had expected Litt to follow them there personally.
Now, however, Evan’s announcement had changed the situation.
General Litt’s attention was fixed entirely on him.
“Our plan stays the same,” Felix said coldly.
Aaron nodded.
“Agreed.”
There was no need to change anything.
With General Litt now focused on Evan, Felix and Aaron had one fewer threat to handle during the operation.
And for the moment, they did not need to retrieve Stella.
Evan had gone to great lengths to take her from Eirden and draw Litt’s attention onto himself.
Whatever else could be said about him, he would not allow anything to happen to her.
