Chapter 963
Jennifer had originally planned to leave and put all these toxic people and their drama behind her.
But Monique’s attitude was making that difficult.
“Why are you trying so hard to provoke me?” Jennifer snapped. “If you’re so capable, get Leon to let me go.”
“Do you think I’m the one refusing to leave? You’re the useless one here. You’re already engaged to hin yet he still wants me to have his baby. What, can’t you give him one yourself?”
If Monique wanted to provoke her, Jennifer could play that game too.
She might not be able to do anything to Monique in person right now, but since the woman had called looking for trouble, Jennifer was happy to oblige.
Monique had indeed called to provoke her.
She simply had not expected Jennifer to be so vicious with her words.
“I wasn’t trying to provoke you.”
“Still pretending to be innocent? We’re both women. Do you really think I can’t see through your little act?
Monique was remarkably good at controlling herself.
Even now, she managed to hold back.
“Leon said you were practically one of the guys,” Jennifer continued. “But from where I’m standing, you’re no different from Summer.”
Summer’s name had become a stain in Harbor City.
People had once envied her.
Now they were terrified of being compared to her.
Monique was no exception.
She had once been seen as someone admirable.
And now?
“Jennifer, you’ve gone too far.”
With that, Monique ended the call.
Apparently, no one could withstand Jennifer’s mouth once she truly let loose.
Jennifer listened to the disconnected line.

She might have won the exchange, but she felt no satisfaction.
Who wanted to waste their time fighting with people like this?
She called Stella immediately.
Stella answered.
“Jennifer.”
“Can your people help me investigate why Leon and Monique suddenly got engaged?”
Because it had been sudden.
There had been signs before, but Leon had never seemed like someone who would give in so easily.
He had always said he saw Monique as one of the guys.
And now he was still insisting Jennifer have his child.
None of that sounded like a man who would casually agree to marry Monique.
Jennifer did not believe there was no reason behind it.
“Does it matter?” Stella asked.
Jennifer was leaving anyway.
As far as Stella was concerned, investigating would only drag her deeper into the mess.
Getting Jennifer out as quickly as possible was what mattered most.
“Monique seems desperate for me to leave.”
“If she loves Leon, of course she wants you gone,” Stella said. “As long as you’re still there, you’ll always
stand between them.”
Jennifer fell silent.
That did make sense.
Still…
“I don’t think you should investigate,” Stella continued.
Whatever the reason was, once Jennifer started digging, she would only become more entangled.
“I have a feeling Monique might be like Summer.”
“You think she’s trying to destroy the Redson family?”
“It’s possible,” Jennifer said.

Back when Summer had been with Steven, she had looked completely devoted to him.
Even after Steven died, she had put on a convincing show of grief whenever she saw Evan’s identical face, as though she still could not accept Steven’s death.
But what had happened in the end?
No matter how convincing her affection had seemed, it had never erased the ugly motive underneath it
all.
Now Monique and Leon had suddenly become engaged.
The woman must have used some kind of leverage.
There might even be something she needed Leon to help cover up.
And Leon, that idiot, had walked straight into her trap because he saw her as a trusted friend. 1
“Even if she is trying to hurt the Redson family, what does that have to do with you?” Stella asked.
Perhaps it was because Stella had finally stepped outside the emotions that had once trapped her.
Now she saw everything with unusual clarity.
“You’re right,” Jennifer admitted. “But that woman keeps provoking me.”
