Chapter 833
It had been a little over a month.
Evan was much more tan now, and he looked stronger too.
The fitted black tactical gear made him look broader and stronger than before.
Stella gave him a cold glance through the open car window but made no move to get out.
“Go ahead,” she said. “Why is Felix helping Summer?”
Evan leaned against a black G-Wagon, a cigarette between his fingers.
His black tactical jacket and pants made his long legs look even straighter.
He was nothing like the man he had been in Harbor City.
There was something wilder about him now.
“Not getting out?” he asked after taking a drag. “Are you afraid I’ll eat you?”
There was a rough, teasing edge to his voice.
And somehow, it carried a kind of casual ease.
Stella almost admired him for it.
The Wright family had lost everything, yet he could still look so unbothered.
A faint smile touched her lips.
“This is Eirden. Why would I be afraid of you?”
She had not been afraid when she fought the entire Wright family in Harbor City.
Now that she was back in Eirden, on Hogarth territory, she had even less reason to fear him.
“Then what are you afraid of?”
Stella said nothing.
Afraid?
She was not.
“Get out,” Evan said. “The night breeze feels nice.”
The weather had started to turn warm, and the wind carried a cool edge that felt pleasant against the skin.
Stella only looked at him.
She did not get out.
She wanted the answer, then she wanted to leave.
Nothing more.
“You’re Aaron Hogarth’s sister?”
“What about it?”
“His real sister?” Evan asked Biologically?”
Chapter
Stella frowned but did not answer.
“Did you take a DNA test? Are you sure?”
“What exactly are you trying to say?”
“You’re too trusting,” Evan said. “I’m worried you’ve been fooled.”
When Evan saw the reports about Aaron personally greeting Stella at the airport and publicly calling her his sister, he had entirely believed it.
Back when he and Stella were together, he had investigated her background.
He had looked into her mother too.
He had never found any connection to the Hogarth family.
So he still had doubts about Aaron truly being Stella’s brother.
Especially with everything happening inside the Hogarth family lately.
“You’re right,” Stella said. “I am too trusting. If I weren’t, I never would’ve wasted so many years tangled up with you.”
On that point, Stella agreed.
She had been too trusting.
If she had not been, Evan would never have deceived her so completely.
Even their marriage had begun with lies.
Evan had nothing to say to that.
“Tell me,” Stella said. “Why is Felix helping Summer?”
“He really hasn’t told you?”
Stella went quiet.
What did he mean by that?
The way Evan spoke only made Stella more certain there was something deeply wrong beneath it all.
When he saw the confusion on her face, Evan gave a cold laugh.
“Of course. He never had good intentions toward you.”
“Why is he helping her?” Stella demanded.
She was losing patience.
The more Evan dragged it out, the more convinced she became that the truth was ngle
“Is Felix using time to keep you waiting?”
Stella’s expression changed.
Time.
One month?
