Chapter 999
Stella had paid far too high a price over the years.
And almost every painful lesson had come from trusting someone too much.
How could she possibly place that kind of faith in anyone now?
She had trusted Evan.
Because of Summer, he had dragged her into hell.
She had trusted Felix, and what happened afterward hardly needed explaining.
None of them deserved her trust.
That made Amos even less trustworthy in her eyes.
Remi understood that everything Stella had gone through had left her deeply guarded.
“Then where do you want to go?”
“Where I go has nothing to do with any of you anymore,” Stella said, turning to her.
Remi blinked.
“What?”
“This is where we part ways.”
Remi and Seymour both froze.
“Thank you for everything you’ve done for me lately,” Stella continued.
“Where are you going? I can come with you,” Remi said instinctively.
Seymour would probably return to Seaborne.
But Remi’s orders had been to remain by Stella’s side and protect her.
When asked where she planned to go, Stella merely looked at Remi in silence.
Remi worked for Amos.
Stella had already made it clear that she did not trust him.
Naturally, she was not going to reveal her destination to one of his people.
“Before Evan died, he ordered me to stay with you,” Remi said.
After a moment, she added, “I worked for Evan.”
She could see that Stella did not trust Amos.
More accurately, Stella did not trust anyone anymore.
And who could blame her?
If she could not even trust her own brother, how could she casually place her faith in anyone else?

“He’s dead,” Stella said.
Yes, but his last order still stands.”
Stella fell silent.
The words he’s dead seemed to pierce her heart without warning.
Perhaps her emotions had simply been slow to catch up..
When she first learned of Evan’s death, she had barely reacted.
Too much had happened between them.
So much that she had given up on him long before he died.
Even hearing that he was gone had not stirred much inside her.
But now…
The realization that he would never appear in her life again suddenly made her feel that their hatred had never been serious enough to justify his death.
What had he truly done?
He had failed to trust his wife and chosen to believe an outsider instead.
At the time, their conflict had been explosive and all-consuming.
But now everything had abruptly fallen silent.
He would never again have the chance to disrupt her life.
And somehow, the thought of such a vibrant life ending so young felt like a terrible waste.
“No.”
Even if staying with her had been Evan’s final order, Stella no longer wanted it honored.
If death was supposed to sever everything between them, then she wanted the break to be complete.
Remi shook her head.
“I can’t do that. I have to stay with you.”
Stella said nothing.
She simply turned away.
On Mance Island, Felix’s and Aaron’s men were searching for Stella like madmen.
They had been unable to locate her before.
But now they knew she had been on Mance Island.
Both sides concentrated their efforts there, determined to find her.
In the end, however, they were disappointed again.
Chapter 999
With Remi and Seymour protecting Stella, how could they possibly find her so easily?
Working together, those two had managed to smuggle Stella out of the heavily guarded Hogarth estate.
Mance Island was not even Felix’s or Aaron’s territory.
Getting Stella away from them here was far easier.
