Chapter 1164
Just like Evan.
Back in Harbor City, there had been times when he hated Stella with everything he had.
But even then, he had never actually wanted her dead.
Before Leon could respond, Lucas continued,
“Jennifer wouldn’t be this afraid unless your family had made her feel like she was in danger.”
“You’ve seen how they’ve treated her lately.”
There was no need to explain what the Redson family’s attitude toward Jennifer had been like.
Especially Monique and Vivian.
At this point, neither of them even bothered pretending anymore.
Jennifer had barely returned before Monique went straight to see her.
Leon had already made his position perfectly clear to Monique.
And yet what good had that done?
“I’ll protect her,” Leon said.
Lucas looked at him.
“You will? You think Evan didn’t say the same thing?”
Leon fell silent.
“When Evan used Stella to trade for Yara, didn’t he tell Stella the exact same thing? That he’d protect her?”
Leon’s chest tightened even more.
Lucas continued,
“And in that situation, Aaron was Stella’s own biological brother. Who would’ve thought things would end the way they did?”
That had been the last time Evan ever saw Stella.
She had been hurt right in front of him.
He couldn’t even protect her when she was standing before his eyes.
So with the way the Redson family was treating Jennifer now, what made Leon so sure he could keep her safe?
The hardest thing to guard against was something you never saw coming.
Some dangers simply couldn’t be prevented, no matter how careful you were.
“Enough,” Leon said hoarsely.

He had asked Lucas out because he wanted someone to ease his mind.
Someone to give him a little confidence.
Instead, Lucas was only making him feel worse.
Lucas looked at him.
“I don’t think you should’ve brought Jennifer back.”
And when it came to Leon and Jennifer, almost everyone seemed to feel the same way.
With his family opposing them this fiercely, staying together would only hurt both of them more.
“Your family still refused to accept her when she was carrying your child. Do you understand what that means?”
Most wealthy families valued children.
No matter how much conflict there had been, once a pregnancy was involved, the elders would usually soften or make some kind of compromise.
But the Redson family hadn’t budged at all.
They had even wanted Jennifer to terminate the pregnancy.
And Leon still thought there could be a future between them?
How could there be?
Leon frowned.
“What does that mean? That I’m supposed to marry Monique instead?”
The Redson family liked Monique.
So was Leon supposed to surrender and marry whoever they approved of?
Lucas fell silent.
Speaking of Monique…
Not long ago, her reputation had been ruined badly enough that Lucas had assumed she would never be accepted into the Redson family again.
But no one had expected Jennifer’s return to throw the family into such a panic.
Now, just to make sure Leon and Jennifer had no future together, they were rushing to arrange his wedding to Monique.
“Everyone in Harbor City already knows they’re preparing the wedding,” Lucas said.
The news had spread incredibly fast.
That alone showed just how determined the Redson family was to get Leon married as soon as possible.

As for why they had gone back to Monique…
It was simple.
There wasn’t anyone else willing to marry Leon right now.
After everything that had happened recently, what prominent family would still willingly send their daughter into this mess?
None.
Lucas looked at Leon seriously.
“Either way, you need to protect Jennifer carefully right now. She’s in a dangerous position.”
The Redson family was determined to make Leon marry Monique.
And Jennifer was now the biggest obstacle standing in their way.
Leon had only two choices.
Either protect Jennifer properly.
Or send her away.
