Remi had certainly been acting like she was interested in Felix.
But judging from the way she was talking now, Stella was starting to doubt that was really why she had come.
She just didn’t seem like the type.
Not the kind of woman who would lose her head over a man.
Remi raised a brow.
“What do you mean, I don’t seem like it? Am I not allowed to love someone?”
Her tone had turned teasing and carefree again.
Stella said nothing.
No, you’re not.
Or rather, it was Remi’s personality that made the whole thing so hard to believe.
Stella couldn’t shake the feeling that Remi had come here for some other purpose.
“What?”
When Stella didn’t answer, Remi waved a hand in front of her face.
Stella snapped out of her thoughts but said nothing. She simply lowered her head and continued eating.
“Want me to help you?” Remi asked lazily.
“No.”
Maybe before, Stella would have considered accepting Remi’s help.
But the Remi standing in front of her now felt completely different from the woman she had known in Sevi Valley.
“Do Amos and Ivy know you came here?”
“No.”
Stella looked at her.
“Of course I didn’t tell them.”
She had come entirely on her own.

Stella gave her a sidelong glance.
“You’re one of Amos’s most capable people. You disappear like this and he doesn’t come looking for you?”
“I left them a message. They won’t.”
“What did you say?”
“That I was going off to chase my dreams.”
Stella fell silent.
Was that the excuse Remi had given everyone?
If anything, it only made Stella more suspicious.
There was no way Remi had come all this way without some kind of agenda.
The only question was whether that agenda involved Stella…
Or Felix.
As for Remi’s claim that she had come because she liked Felix?
Stella didn’t believe a word of it.
“If you decide you want my help, just tell me,” Remi said.
“No.”
She really didn’t.
Stella hated not knowing what was going on.
And as long as she couldn’t figure Remi out, there was no chance she would trust her enough to accept her help.
After finishing his call, Felix didn’t go back inside right away.
Instead, he stood beneath the yew tree by the door, lit a cigarette, and took two hard drags.
Jack stood behind him.
“Mr. Hernandez.”
“Did you find anything?”
“No.”

Jack shook his head.
The moment Remi appeared here, Felix had ordered him to investigate why she had come.
What was she really after?
But Jack had found nothing.
Felix took another drag from his cigarette.
“Why do you think she came?”
Jack hesitated.
“Maybe for you?”
Felix’s face darkened instantly.
For him?
“Then get her out of here.”
Things between him and Stella were at a critical point.
He wasn’t about to let anyone interfere.
He had seen exactly what happened between Evan and Summer.
He had no intention of leaving even the slightest hidden threat around.
Jack frowned.
“She probably won’t agree to leave. She went through a lot of trouble to find this place.”
Those words made the suspicion in Felix’s eyes deepen.
That was true.
They had kept their whereabouts tightly hidden.
Yet Remi had still managed to find them.
Which meant getting here couldn’t have been easy.
And after going through all that trouble, forcing her to leave probably wouldn’t be easy either.
More importantly, if Remi had worked that hard to track them down, then she had definitely come with a purpose.
Jack continued,

“But from what I found, Retni doesn’t seem to have come here because of you.”
Felix narrowed his eyes.
“What do you mean?”
“At least, it doesn’t look like she came because she’s in love with you.”
