Chapter 852
Given the current situation, she naturally had to keep whatever was going on between her and Thorne, as well as the company’s crisis, under wraps for as long as possible.
She had Edwin call a meeting and then tackled a few other pending matters.
By the time she finished, it was already noon.
She grabbed her car keys and headed out. Not long after, her car pulled to a stop across the street from The Henderson Group.
It was the lunch hour, and swarms of employees were flowing in and out of the entrance of Henderson Tower. Just ten days ago, she could have walked into that building freely. But now, if she dared to show her face there, the news of her arrival would probably be blasted all over the internet in seconds.
Vesta sat in her car, staring up at Henderson Tower. After a long moment, she finally put the car in gear and drove away.
Initially, having her personal accounts frozen hadn’t been a big deal. But now, the crisis had entangled Neural Nexus Tech. If word got out that Neural Nexus Tech’s equity was frozen…
The thought gnawed at her. That evening, staring at her phone screen that was still devoid of any replies, Vesta finally picked it up and made a call.
Upstairs, Jasmine was reading a book. When her phone started ringing, she paused, her hand hovering over the page, before getting up to check it. However, the moment she saw the caller ID, she set the phone face down and ignored it. Just then, Latonia walked upstairs. “Jasmine, it’s time for dinner.”
Jasmine stood up. “Got it.”
When the call went unanswered, Vesta dialed again.
Still nothing.
Vesta slowly lowered her phone, giving up on trying.
She didn’t know when it had started, but Jasmine had suddenly become incredibly fond of Charlene.
The night of Dr. Lucas’s gala, when Jasmine had shown up, she only had eyes for Charlene. Vesta knew right then that Jasmine now preferred Charlene over her.
Judging by Jasmine’s expression and attitude when she left the gala that night, Vesta knew the little girl had understood far more than anyone realized.
Since then, they hadn’t been in contact at all.
She hadn’t been anxious at the time, trusting that Thorne could manage Jasmine’s emotions.
But now, Jasmine was deliberately ignoring her calls…
Meanwhile.
By the time Thorne finished work and got home, it was just past nine in the evening.
He went upstairs and walked
straight to Jasmine’s room. The door was open; she had already showered and was sitting on the
plush rug, playing
with her toys
Thorne stood at the doorway and
knocked. Hearing the sound,
Jasmine glanced over. Seeing
Was
him she showed no surprise and
didn’t offer a greeting.
Thorne leaned against the frame. “School starts in a couple of days. Should Dad go
to the opening ceremony with you?”
Jasmine pressed her lips into a thin line. “Whatever.”
Thorne studied her. “You didn’t tell your mom about school starting?”
Jasmine went completely silent.
Thorne pressed gently. “Do you want Dad to tell her for you?”
Jasmine snapped her head around, glaring at him. “I don’t need you to tell her anything!”
Thorne nodded. “Alright.”
As he spoke, he took a step into the room. Seeing this, Jasmine muttered sullenly, “I’m going to bed. Leave me alone.”
Thorne stopped. “Okay…”
He paused, then added, “How about Dad takes you to the Fencing Hall tomorrow?” Jasmine remained silent.
Thorne softly said, “Goodnight.”
Still, Jasmine didn’t say a word.
Standing at the door, Thorne
suddenly asked, “Did something happen?” Before Jasmine could respond, he guessed, “Did someone call you?”
Jasmine’s hands froze on her toy. She quickly looked away and mumbled, “Lots of people call me every day.”
Thorne didn’t push it, but a faint smile touched his lips. “It seems Dad should call you a few more times a day, then.”
“As if I care!”
