Chapter 875
In Moran’s eyes, Jasmine was perpetually happy. If anything ever bothered her, she would immediately run to Thorne about it. What could she possibly be upset over?
Jasmine swiped across her iPad screen, not bothering to look up. “I’m not upset.”
Usually, whenever they met, she had a bright smile plastered across her face-a picture of pure, unadulterated joy.
If someone teased her, she would fire back with cheeky enthusiasm. Seeing her sit there in absolute silence, completely ignoring his teasing, even Moran realized that she was genuinely in a terrible mood.
He was just about to poke at her a little more to find out what was wrong, but Granger cleared his throat. “Your turn. Order something.”
“I already ordered.”
“Order two more dishes.”
Moran shot him a surprised look. “You’re that hungry today?”
Granger didn’t respond.
The last time they had all gone sailing, Granger had already noticed that something was weighing heavily on the girl. Even then, he had suspected it had something to do with the night of Dr. Lucas’s gala.
In other words, it likely involved the complicated web between Jasmine, Charlene, Thorne, and Vesta.
Thinking this over, his gaze shifted between Thorne and his daughter. Despite the topic of her bad mood being brought up, Thorne hadn’t said a word to defend or comfort her. The utter lack of communication between the two solidified his theory: Jasmine’s unhappiness was directly tied to Charlene and Vesta.
Catching on, he wisely refrained from probing further and smoothly changed the subject.
As dinner wound down and Jasmine stepped away to the restroom, Granger finally asked Thorne, “Did you two have a fight?”
Moran had noticed the exact same thing throughout the meal.
He had watched as Jasmine remained painfully quiet. Thorne had placed food on her plate as he always did, and while she accepted it and said thank you, her tone was chillingly different from before.
“You could say that,” Thorne admitted.
Moran still assumed that Jasmine favored Vesta over Charlene. Even though she had been present at the explosive gala, he figured enough time had passed for a child to move on. He genuinely believed this was just a standard father-daughter spat.
He chuckled. “Well, you better go soothe her. She looks seriously pissed off today.
It’s going to take some serious coaxing to fix this.”
Granger, on the other hand, hadn’t expected the fallout from the gala to still be affecting Jasmine so deeply.
He had no idea what the dynamic between the four of them looked like now.
He wanted to ask, but Jasmine was already walking back to the table. Remembering her uncharacteristically somber demeanor, he swallowed his questions.
Still…
He had to admit, seeing her so quiet and composed made her look more and more like Charlene.
Half an hour later, the dinner wrapped up.
After waving goodbye to Granger and Moran, Jasmine and Thorne got into the car together.
The vehicle quickly pulled away from the curb.
Once they were smoothly cruising
down the road, Jasmine reached for her iPad Before she could pull it out of her backpack, Thorne gently pushed her hand down. “Give your eyes a rest. You can look at it later.”
Jasmine didn’t argue. She shoved the tablet back into her bag.
Thorne looked over at her. “How long has it been since you saw your mom? I’ll have some free time in a couple of days. How about I invite her out, and we can all grab dinner?”
Jasmine froze. Pressing her lips together, she muttered, “There’s no need.”
